The year is rapidly coming to an end, but there's still enough time for a quick look back at some of 2003's best concerts. Feel free to e-mail me (joe.heim@washingtonpost.com) your list of the year's best shows; and in a couple of weeks, I'll post our readers' favorites. Here is my baker's dozen, plus a few that weren't so hot.

 1. Flaming Lips at 9:30
 2. Bruce Springsteen at FedEx Field
 3. Rilo Kiley at Black Cat
 4. Alejandro Escovedo at Iota
 5. Willie Nelson at Wolf Trap
 6. Neko Case, Kelly Hogan, Carolyn Mark at Black Cat
 7. Polyphonic Spree at 9:30
 8. Rebirth Brass Band at Velvet Lounge
 9. Holly Golightly at Black Cat
 10. Tom Jones at Lisner
 11. Tell Us the Truth Tour at 9:30
 12. Junior Senior at Black Cat
 13. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club at 9:30

And five I could have done without:

 1. Kathleen Edwards at Iota
 2. Cat Power at 9:30
 3. Blue Man Group at Warner
 4. Lisa Marie Presley at Wolf Trap
 5. Bright Eyes at 9:30

I saw Rilo Kiley at the Black Cat and thought they were fairly average

Nice to see Alejandro getting some recognition...

Didn't see any on the list, but nice to see three artists on Bloodshot Records represented (Neko, Kelly, Alejandro). Did see Kathleen Edwards elsewhere amd would have to agree: she sucks.

I actually looked into it, but it was prohibitively expensive for me -- somewhere in that $80 - $120 range.
