So far, Chef Geoff West End, is awesome. We made friends at the bar, before our reservation! I wanna go to the Ritz Carlton bar, which is next door, afterwards!

I feel like dark roasted peanuts should be more of a thing.

I added a bit of Kala Namak to my tofu scramble. Gave it just the right amount of eggy.

First empty next date night Saturday night. Anyone have a recommendation for a place to eat in DC?

-Should be moderately priced. Doesn't have to be cheap. $$-$$$.
-Likely going to Churchkey for drinks before or after. Don't mind driving and parking twice, so can be in different parts of the city.
-Pescetarian friendly options, not too meat-centric. Healthy options too.
-Probably too late for reservations at some places, don't mind eating later (drinks first).

Osteria Mozza... but not close to Church Key at all. I guess you could go to Sovereign instead.

I actually went to the Sovereign (Cantillon on draft) yesterday for dinner before the show at the Wharf. Like I said, I don't mind a little driving. Would love to have some of the Hill Farmstead leftovers at Churchkey.

If a reservation system doesn't show anything available until 9:15, does that mean there's no walk up availabilty prior to then? Honestly, I've never tried.

I'm sure their restaurant isn't 100% reservation based, but I have no idea. It's a huge place and also has bar seating, so maybe roll the dice? I'm a pasta lover and it's about as good as it gets and veg friendly.

Sovereign does have some good grub
but, I love mussels and fries, so I'm easy to please
does seem the menu is a lot smaller than it was a year ago

and that bar area on the second floor is 'bar service' but the whole menu is available and they have a bunch of booths and tables
slack

Don't want the Sovereign again since I was there last night. Side note:  Last night I had the spinach salad with salmon. The old timer near me had a flatbread, and threw nearly all of it away.

And since Churchkey is a definite, want to avoid a second beer place.

Fun note: I avoid mussels, period (shitake mushrooms as well) because the last two tines I've had them I was doubled over in pain, vomiting repeatedly for hours. I'm not sure what months those incidents occurred.

The traditional "R" rule for avoiding mussels (and other shellfish) in months without the letter "R" (May through August) is largely outdated due to modern farming and food safety practices. While mussels can be enjoyed year-round, the best time to eat them is generally during the colder months, especially from September to April, when they are typically at their peak quality and flavor.
