 Buckley Biography Film A Go
 June 16, 200

The Hollywood Reporter says that a film about the lives of father-and-son singer/songwriters Tim and Jeff Buckley is in the works. Writer/producer Train Houston has secured the rights to the book Dream Brother: The Lives & Music of Jeff and Tim Buckley, written by David Browne, and Houston has penned the screenplay. Tim Buckley recorded nine studio albums from 1966 to 1974 before he died of a heroin overdose in 1975 at the age of 28. His son Jeff recorded the highly praised album Grace in 1994, but in 1997 he drowned in Memphis at age 30.

Jeff Buckley is reportedly the focal point of the movie script, with Tim appearing in flashbacks. The Hollywood Reporter says that Houston has established the production company BulletProof Train with his wife and producing partner Holly Houston as a home for the Buckley script, as well as other projects.

This could be pretty weird for me. Leah Reid, Jeff's closest friend at Sony, used to work in this area as a field rep. I used to see her all the time at release parties and shows. She was an important figure in Jeff's life so it's likely that someone will portray her in any film about him.

I dunno. The sorry death of Jeff Buckley still ticks me off. What a pathetic waste of life and talent.  So why exactly did he decide to go for a swim in the Mississippi River? Was he drunk? On drugs? Suicidal?

I'm sure his mother who continues to curate his meager output of material was amused.

I'm sure fans calling him a pathetic waste of life and talent make her feel good too.

The truth is nobody knows exactly what happened.  The coroner labeled his death an accidental drowning and found no traces of alcohol or drugs in his system.

"Buckley's disappearance occurred after the musician and a friend, Keith Foti, 23, went to the Memphis Harbor shore, where Buckley had swum on previous occasions, to sing and play music. Buckley had gone swimming, fully-clothed, in the harbor, while Foti remained on the shore. According to Foti, a passing towboat created a wash on the shore and Foti lost sight of Buckley when he turned away from the water to move a portable stereo away from the waves. After calling out and searching for the singer, Foti reported Buckley's disappearance to the Memphis police at 9:22pm" on May 29.

His body was found June 4 by a riverboat passing by the same area.

Therefore, it would certainly appear to be an accident and tragic, likely even really sad, not quite sorry and pathetic as you have described.

Actually I've continued to make her feel good by continuing to buy his meager output.  "Sin-E" and "My Sweetheart" are still frequently on the CD player at home ....
