new monthly indie night debuts Fri. Feb. 6th
« on: February 06, 2004, 12:33:00 pm »
Hey everybody,

I know this is last minute notice, but I just found out about this yesterday.  I've been working on doing my own monthly indie music night with my friend Brandon for a while now and we just reached an agreement with the owner of The Marx Cafe on Wednesday night.  The original plan was to debut this new monthly event on Friday March 5th (same night as Cooper Temple---yowsers!), and while we are still going to be spinning that night, we were told yesterday that we are needed to spin tonight due to another DJ getting sick.

So anyway, I've included a brief description of the night for you to check out.  If any of you came out to Atmosphere last month and liked what you heard, then you'll like the music that my friend Brandon and I will be spinning.  The only difference being we will play a slightly wider range of indie music and also play a healthy amount of brand new music that's just been released overseas...

Hope to see some of you guys tonight. Read on...

"We Fought the Big One" premieres tonight, Friday, Feb. 6th!!!

"We Fought the Big One" is a new monthly indie music night hosted by local music obsessives turned DJs Brandon Grover and Rick Taylor aka DJ Trickster. Held the first Friday of every month at The Marx Café (3203 Mt. Pleasant Street, NW), "We Foughtâ?¦" features a diverse range of musical styles: jangle guitar pop, post-punk, shoegaze, left-of-center brit pop, and indie electro, to name a few.  While there will be plenty of artists played at "We Fought..." that are considered "fan favorites", a strong emphasis will be placed on excellent songs that rarely get played out in clubs, if ever. In addition, the night will serve as a showcase for new and upcoming bands from the U.K. and elsewhere that have yet to break the American market (or have their albums released here!), as well as older bands from the 80s and 90s that were never given the recognition they deserved (The Trash Can Sinatras, Close Lobsters & House of Love come to mind). Ultimately, the goal is to create an environment where music fans can hear some of their favorite bands alongside worthy bands that they havenâ??t heard, whether they are from the past or the present.

There is no cover charge. 21+
 10pm-3am

WAHOO!  And on a FRIDAY!  That is fantastic news, FoGC...  I'm out of town this weekend, but keep me updated and I will certainly bring a crew.  I'm emailing them now about tonight....

Sorry you won't be able to make it out tonight, Bags, but like I said earlier, we are slated to do Friday, March 5th as well.  So hopefully enough people will come out tonight and in March so we can keep doing it...

Btw, does anybody out there have any requests for this evening?

So how was the crowd -- did you get the word out in time?  I'm planning to be there the 5th.
