I think Foley did it b/c he's an old perv who gets off on little boys.  
 
 Its gotten to the point where it almost seems like the GOP wants and needs the Dems need to step up and take the GOP out of its misery.  The evil lurking inside has gotten so out of control b/c they've gotten away with so much for so long they almost need the opposition to save themselves from themselves.

I don't think you give 16 year olds enough credit for who many of them are.
 
 By that time, at least half of them have been sexually active.
 
 When I was 24, I worked as a substitute teacher. I had numerous cute 16 and 17 year olds suggestively flirting with me. One even left me a note with her number as she was leaving the room. Others asked for my number.
 
 If I had responded in any way or even had done anything to provoke such behavior (which I didn't), of course  would have been inappropriate. Of course, Foley's actions are inappropriate. But did he do anything ILLEGAL? I don't think so.
 
 But the idea that 16 and 17 year olds are these innocent young things that need all this protection, I'm not buying it. The transcripts I read seemed to show that the boys were flirting right back with him.

Would you be ok with it if they were 18 instead of 16 or 17? The age of consent in DC is 16. What was innappropriate was doing what he did in the position he's in relative to their positions.

Actually some of what he did is possibly illegal BECAUSE OF LAWS HE HELPED PUT THROUGH.  Crap if you are into that then heck don't make what you enjoy illegal.

i'm gay and have never been an alcoholic or molested. i have known i was gay since i was 6. i didn't make a choice about it. my first crush was on my 2nd grade teacher. i just knew i liked guys and not girls that way. what's your rationalization on that? Foley's problem has nothing to do with being gay but being a public figure who got caught. these were not innocent little boys at Neverland. people think it's there business to play society watchdogs. i just feel sorry for him not being able to admit that his problem isn't being gay, or alchohol or past alleged abuse, but with poor judgement and his inability to relate with boys his own age.

You're definitely right on that one.  But there's a HUGE difference between a 16 year old with a 24 year old and a 16 year old with a 52 year old.  The 24 year old is only eight years older than the 16 year old, which is not that big a difference if they're both mature and able to handle it.  And as a 24 year old teacher with younger girls making passes at you, you were in a position of authority where it would have been a no-no to do anything with the other girls - and you didn't.  If you hadn't been in that position of authority...well...I'm just going to say it wouldn't have been horribly uncommon.  So, as a 52 year old in Congress...I mean, you are running the country.  You should be a poster boy for decent behavior (in an ideal world...).  If he really was smart (and this has nothing to do with being gay or not), he would have kept it in his pants and known that in his authoritative position, it was a no-no.  Especially when you take such a stance on child pornography as he did, no?  That's sick AND hypocritical!  
 
 And I know the age of consent in DC is 16.  And while I like to think that age is but a number, and if they were in love, let them love...BUT.  You've gotta weigh your options, man.  If Foley were 24 working on Capitol Hill as an intern or something, it would be a completely different story.  But when you're in that sort of position, you should SUBSCRIBE to appropriate conduct.  And he did not.  Shame shame shame.
