you can kind of make up for this by making "feeder" smart playlists which are then drawn upon by a larger smart playlist ... gets cumbersome, but definitely doable, especially if you have a certain thing in mind and don't want to change the variables too often ... by making one of the criteria a "last played xx days ago" it cycles songs out of the list whenever you play them, so you can constantly refresh it
i like iTunes a lot, i haven't seen anything better ... smart playlists drawing from the comments section (sub-genres, tempo, mood, occasion, etc)is the way to go
