Another reason for you to come on over and move to Virginia. But only if you're a democrat.

As a lifelong Marylander it still sounds funny to me to say something like..."alcoholic drink at 7-11".  Is it all MD or just certain counties that you can only buy alcohol at liquor stores? [/b]
i think it's all of maryland. i remember when i moved here i didn't really understand why there was a liquor store every 300 feet ..

it's really annoying to not be able to get beer at the grocery story though. [/b]

actually, the control of alcoholic beverages in maryland is due to the cozy relationship between politicians and alcohol distributors.  the various counties in maryland make a ton of money off of the exclusive contracts made between them and alcohol distributors that limit where, when and how you can purchase alcohol, not to mention limiting the variety of labels and producers.  while these rules may have originally served the purpose of religious authorities, so-called blue laws, those purposes have long since been thrown out the window in favor of donations to campaigns and easy money into government coffers.

virginia, except for their control over the sale of hard alcohol, has been one of the front-runners in getting rid of this relationship with distributors, primarily to allow the direct sale of virginia wine to customers outside of virginia without having to go through a distributor.

You can get beer at one of the Royal Farm stores in Hampden in the city and a couple of 7-11s in Baltimore County.

definitely not in friendship heights/chevy chase, silver spring and bethesda. [/b]
There are a handful of exceptions.  Snyders in Silver Spring carries beer and wine.  There's also a tiny grocery store in the Four Corners shopping plaza that sells it.

I think we need a modern-day William Tecumseh Sherman to march through all the red states.

I'm 99% sure this is the case at the Shoppers in Germantown as well.
