Last 611 Florida show: Free Folk Phantasmagory V on Satu
« on: September 11, 2008, 04:41:00 pm »
Well, this is it...I'm moving to Philly on the 20th, and decided to throw one last party before I leave.  611 Florida has hosted over 60 amazing shows since February 2003, and I have a good one lined up to close this era.  I'll continue booking the Velvet Lounge for a few months, then my successor will hopefully continue bringing some of the best fringe music to the city.  Of course, I'll be back playing shows with Kohoutek, Ultimate Vag, PRV Trio, Insect Factory, Kuschty Rye Ergot, and others.  Unfortunately, I don't have the time to cull up descriptions and biographies; that's what Google's for.  Here are the pertinent details:

 Saturday, September 13
 611 Florida Ave NW WDC
 http://www.claviusproductions.org
 4pm (music will start shortly thereafter) - 1am
 $5 suggested donation
 202-360-9730 for more info
 BYOW!

 Kohoutek (DC, Music Fellowship)
 Max Ochs (MD, Tomkins Square)
 The Julie Mittens (Netherlands, Holy Mountain)
 Human Adult Band (NJ noise rock)
 Hat City Intuitive (CT/DC, Ecstatic Peace)
 Sondra Sun-Odeon (NYC, of Silver Summit, Language of Stone)
 Ilya Monosov (DC, Language of Stone/Eclipse)
 Insect Factory (DC solo drone guitar)
 Teething Veils (DC, of The Antiques)
 Layne Garrett (DC, of The Cutest Puppy in the World)

 ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

 Saturday 9/13 @ Velvet Lounge: Stinking Lizaveta/Ambition Burning/Nihilitia/Tideland
 $10, doors at 9pm, 18+

 ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

 Sunday 9/14 @ Velvet Lounge: The Fordists/I Love You (Kansas City experimental rock)/Buck Gooter    $7, doors at 9pm, 21+

 ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

 Monday 9/15 @ Velvet Lounge: Some Velvet Underground w/ DJs Naraku, Provoke, Secret Chimp, Elephant Bone and others spinning far-out psych, rock, folk, pop, noise, and other subversive sounds, plus an improv set by Aaron Martin on alto, Mike Sebastian (DCIC) on tenor and other reeds, Ed Ricart (PRV Trio) on guitar, Scott Verrastro (Kohoutek) on percussion.  Doors at 9pm, free, 21+.  Going-away parties are kinda lame -- especially when the person leaving isn't going away very far and will be back quite frequently -- but it is a good excuse to get wasted and listen to rare records and see a free-jazz blow-out.

 Tuesday 9/16 @ Velvet Lounge: Gestures/Scurvy/The Cutest Puppy in the World
 $7, doors at 9pm, 21+

 ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

 Wednesday 9/17 @ Velvet Lounge: Pygmy Lush/The Catalyst/Ancient Sky/Turboslut
 $8, doors at 9pm, 18+

 ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

 Due to all the crap I have to pack and the whole process of moving, I won't be able to promote all of the shows I have booked at the Velvet Lounge in the coming months.  Just pay attention to the website, as there are plenty of great shows coming up: www.velvetloungedc.com.

 And thanks to Jeff Bagato (El Possible), Layne Garrett (Lighthouse), and Brit Powell (Lighthouse) for keeping the experimental flame going, and to Beck Levy (Girl Cave), Katy Otto (Girl Cave), the Kansas House, and other independent venues and houses who host underground music in the DC area.  Fuck H Street and its corporate greed and exploitation of art.  DC needs more alternative spaces!

That's a damn fine lineup. I'll definitely forego Lightning Bolt in NYC for it if I end up doing anything saturday.
