Solo microscopic ambient guitar drone, often with additional minimal instrumentation, infleunced and inspired by the likes of Terry Riley, Steve Reich, Fripp/Eno, John Fahey, and Coltrane. Hypnotic layers of drone textures. Like huffing the gas out of Tony Conrad's ass, but with a straw.

Northern Valentine is a Pennsylvania-based collective of musicians, artists and noisemakers, held together by husband and wife Robert and Amy Brown and their friend Matt Primak. We have been writing and recording music since 1997 and have collaborated with a number of different musicians along our path.

The music of Northern Valentine is built around simple progressions, themes, stories, conversations, scraps of sound and samples, or spontaneous moments that just happen while playing music with each other. Our music has drawn comparisons to artists ranging from Labradford, Ennio Morricone, and Eluvium to Einstuerzende Neubauten, Spacemen 3 and Birchville Cat Motel.

We record in home studios, such as our very own Baresound One, located outside of Philadephia, Pennsylvania. We also take â??field trips" with portable equipment and record in remote and natural settings, such as woodland areas, parks, public places and abandoned buildings. We design our own artwork and hand-assemble each of our CD-R releases through our own Baresongs Music label.

 P.D. Wilder

"Drone guitarist P.D. Wilder played a set that was a tad more conventional in a post-Kranky sort of way, conjuring aural snapshots of ambient Eno and Windy & Carl against the melting backdrop of swirling visuals. While this was perhaps the most predictable set of the night, it was also one of the most effectively soothing." (Lee Jackson, Dead Echoes Roundup, Foxy Digitalis)

"Texas drone guitarist. Minimal and ambient guitar washes create a spooky and ominous vibe. A few whispered vocals. Fans of Loren Mazzacane Connors will enjoy this. Recommended." (Cactus, KUSF 90.3FM, Lovemuzzle)

"Stratospheric post-rock for sad, sensitive wanderers...powerfully resonant guitar drones evoke densely textured tracts of space." (Dave Segal, Alternative Press)

the house shows are pretty laissez-faire and laid back, so i don't follow any set times, but we'll start at 9:30ish. it'll be over around midnight. come over if you can, definitely recommended for fans of eno, fripp, steve reich, terry riley, tony conrad, lamonte young, popul vuh, etc.
