1996 Telecommunications Act
« on: June 22, 2003, 07:26:00 pm »
I've been keeping myself up at night wondering why I must dig so deep to find real music.  I knew this bill was involved, did some simple research and just raging over what I found... I always knew slick willy was a buffoon, then I found another reason to loathe the man... an actual quote after he signed the bill in 1996: At the bill-signing ceremony, Clinton hailed the legislation as one of the most significant bills in a century. "Today our laws will catch up with our future," said Clinton. "We will help to create an open marketplace where competition and innovation can move as quick as light." I'm sorry folks... but this is the reason for the RIAA, why HFS, dc101, MTV stink, the Brittany Spears', Matchbox 20's, and need I mention "(c)rap" in the mainstream.

Dude... mainstream music has been overwhelmingly dominanted by garbage since pretty much the beginning of time.

does this telecom act of '96 have a provision that verizon have a monopoly on local phone service up and down the eastern seaboard?

i thought we broke up the "ma bell" to make "baby bells" when in fact, the only "baby bells" there are is in long distance, no local phone service. only 10 years ago i remember new england telephone in new england, bell atlantic down here and bellsouth for, well, the south, for local service. now that is all verizon. why is the fcc not going after them? am i the only one who things there is something wrong with this?

Apparently, Verizon has greased up the politicians hands enough as opposed to other industries.

Clinton, Bush; they all dish out the same cheap shit after they've lied to you and robbed you blind.
