Didn't go but here's a hint, they both suck horribly and are poxes on music in general.  You saved some brain cells.  Good for you.

If Jack Johnson played the viola, I might have considered attending.

I didnt go either, but I immensely enjoy Ben Harper.  I saw him at Coachella and had never really listened to him before that, but he's really good I think.  I would have gone last night, if it wasnt for Jack Johnson, who is worthless, a $40 pricetag, and Bull Run (where i just have bad memories!) being in BFE-Virginia. Plus, I dont like pot smoke.

I'm not attempting to start a flame war, but could one of you humor me and explain what is so repulsive about Jack Johnson?  He seems like a good guy who writes relatively original music as well as lyrics with a pretty good message.  That combination in itself is rare enough to me.  Then again, I don't have all that much musical experience, so maybe someone could point out who/what bands are actually worth listening to?

Oh man.  Stick around the board for about 30 seconds and I'm sure you'll get an earful.  I mean, that's like asking a Brit if he wouldn't mind telling you what he dislikes about America.

To actually attempt to answer your question...Jack Johnson (in this guy's opinion), writes bland songs with bland instrumentation about bland subjects.  He's about as vanilla as it gets.  If "pretty good" is all you require, then by all means, enjoy Jack Johnson.  But there is way too much excellent music out there to settle for
"relatively original."  If you're into singer-songwriter type stuff, listen to Jeff Buckley's "Grace" and call me in the morning.

Personally, I wouldn't say vanilla. I'd say flavorless ice milk.

So Walkman, when are Black Eyes playing again?

I agree with walkman.  Jack Johnson...there is nothing to him, a few chords on the guitar and some lyrics my girlfriends daughter could think up (she's 10).  I suppose you could listen to it for its simplicity and thats fine. I take the White Stripes in that instance, but to each his own.
I saw Jack at Coachella in between Sonic Youth and the White Stripes, which made me think, why is he even HERE! At least Ben Harper has a good voice, can REALLY tear up that slide guitar, and actually has a good band behind him, not to mention Rahzel.
check it out "Slow down everyone you're moving too fast"  borrrring.

oh yeah, and its also like asking a Canadian what they dont like about America. Jack Johnson is one of them  :)

Thanks!

But that was more of a joke between Walkman and I.   ;)

I think I would actually prefer to see Black Eyes over Jack Johnson. Would only need ear plugs instead of a coffin.

Everyone needs a potty break now and then. A little food, drink and rest. Maybe go off and make a phone call.

I'm actually one of those people.

By the way, I agree that Ben Harper is waaaay out of Jack Johnson's league.

Ear plugs are highly recommended.  Especially when 4/5 of them are banging away on drums and cymbals.

See?  Better to be hard of hearing than bored to death.
