OK, so this is admittedly a shameless plug for my humble dj endeavor, but I figured there may be some die hard post-punk/indie fans that read this board so...
This Friday, Oct. 6 at Marx Cafe, my friend Brandon and I will be hosting our monthly dj night, "We Fought the Big One." It's essentially a tribute to classic post-punk and left-of-center fringe alternative bands, including bands from the shoegaze scene. We play stuff from the late 70s, 80s, 90s, and new music but try to avoid like the plague the overly-hyped watered-down stuff or songs you've heard a million times before. We were mentioned in SPIN Magazine as one of the hottest things to do in the nation, but don't hold that against us! We promise you'll have a good time!
Sadly, our friend Jake Reid has informed me that local noise heroes and enemies of mainstream blandness Alcian Blue are no more. As a tribute to this great band, who never got their just props (even though they released one of the best albums of the year in '06 after plugging away for more than a decade), you will be hearing a healthy dose of some of this band's finest moments Friday night. 'nuff said.
And with that, I hope to see some of you Friday evening for some good times and good tunes...
