Stereolab Set List?
« on: April 21, 2004, 07:36:00 am »
Thought it was a great show, but to my recollection I don't think they played one song off Emperor Tomato Ketchup which is obviously a disappointment.  Any thoughts?

Didn't they play the second song off Ketchup?  'Cybele's Reverie'?  Not like I knew the name before looking on the album.  Song names don't help me with this group...

I'm guessing this site will have the setlist up in a couple of days:

Still, an excellent show. Makes me want to go after some more of their back catalog.

They may have played that, but I don't recall it (not surprising).  I was looking for like Noise of Carpet or Percolator, but don't get me wrong...excellent show.  The reason I was curious of the setlist is becuase there were a few songs I didn't recognize and I certainly want to explore a bit more of Sterelab material.

Nobody else had a problem with the sound?  We started out on the balcony dead center, Mice Parade was so loud and distorted it was painful.  We thought it was their setup or sound guy, but Stereolab was just as bad. The only show I can remember being louder was Orbital a couple years ago.  After a number of tunes we moved downstairs to the very back and it was better, but still not great, and by this time we had such bad headaches and now a terrible view so we just left.

I've got a friend who's a big Stereolab freak. Has been trying to get me hooked for a while. I've been just lukewarm to them though - thought they were just pleasant enough background type music. Then I heard this record over the weekend:

  <img src="http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov200/drf500/f569/f56906twjlu.jpg" alt=" - " />

I liked it - a lot. For this reason:

"ABC Music, the two-disc, 32-track compilation of Stereolab's BBC Radio 1 sessions from July 1991 to August 2001, is a surprisingly illuminating and listenable set. Although this may come as a shock to some casual listeners, Stereolab can be a ferocious live band, and their trademark blend of Krautrock, easy listening, and Brazilian influences (in different proportions throughout their career) usually has an added aggressiveness in a live setting."

I'll do my best to see them in Indio now.

Sound quality for Stereolab was definitely a problem. Those keyboards were cranked! I did like the instrumentation on the absent backing vocal tracks though.

And it wasn't the worst show, but certainly not the best.

It's funny because he's kidding.

I was on the floor for Stereolab, and thought the sound was fine for them, although Mice Parade were painfully loud.  The BBC sessions are great.  I have some comp. (spacy double spiral) from those sessions that I picked up before the official release.  Which means I paid more and got less than I would have if I had waited a year.  Oh well.

i didn't think the sound for either band was all that bad.  i didn't think the show was very loud, nor do i think the orbital show a couple years ago was very loud.  i think the loudest show i ever experienced @ 930 was atari teenage riot like 7 years ago.. my ears rang for 3 days.
also, at one of the orb shows in 97 i was standing near the stacks and during one of the songs there was so much bass it was affecting my breathing.

the last show i remember having sound problems @ 930 was probably mogwai last september.  that was probably the worst sounding mogwai show i've seen.

I heard somebody else say that, they were up front, I stood next to the soundboard and it was crystal clear
