how is the sound there?  Is it a big venue? I'm thinking about getting tickets for a show there, but not I'm not too sure about the venue.

Constitution hall is a big place.  It might actually be one of the worst places in this area to see some band that you absolutely love, because you won't.  Both literally, and figuratively.  You'll pay way too much to get close enough to see fingers moving and will hear way too little.  Plus, you'll be standing in a row of theatre seats, so there's no really way to get down and move a bit.  Constitution hall should be reserved for ballets and Clinton speaking engagements.  I've seen the Strokes and Death Cab For Cutie/Franz Ferdinand there and both times I just left bitter and dissappointed.  This is no place for rock.

I personally think it depends who you see. I saw Bonnie Raitt at DAR and rather enjoyed it. I also saw the Pixies there and was really wishing the concert was at a different venue.

There, that clears it up now doesn't it?

i've been to several shows at DAR, and there is a sweet spot to be had where the sound is decent:  on the floor close enough to the stage so you only get direct sound from the PA, but not so close as to be flooded by the stage fills.  essentially, ORCH rows F thru Q more or less.  some of the front boxes are ok especially for the view, but you're off-center for sound.  sections F thru Q aren't worth sitting in.  check out the  seating map for details.  the back of the hall could definitely use some acoustic treatments.

actually scoring those tickets is another matter...

saw the pixies and primus there and have no complaints. both shows sounded fine, and no problems with the view.
