Field Day 2005 gets permit from Town board

The Red Hook Town Board has granted approval for a mass gathering permit for a two-day music festival scheduled for July 2005 at the Greig Farm. Promoter Andrew Dreskin, who organized the June 2003 Field Day Festival in New York, has been mentioning Radiohead as headliners from day one in an attempt to get the Festival organized. The 2003 edition was troubled with many permit issues and had to move elsewhere only a couple of days before the event. As for the exact date of Field Day 2005, Dreskin said it would be either July 16-17 or 23-24. He said the date will be known within the next few weeks and is dependent upon the confirmation from the "headliner."

I hope they can pull it off. The original Field Day lineup was pretty amazing--shame it went to hell. It seems the most difficult thing to do in the States is pull off a credible rock festival with talented artists participating.

Yeah, but they had the permits in 2003 too... until they were yanked three days before the show.  I mean, the town can still take them away and it's not a sure thing.  No doubt, when the neighbors figure out this is up, probably the week of the show, they'll do their NIMBY thing all over again.

I too had tix to the 2003 Field Day.  When they changed venues, though, I didn't rebuy.

I had such plans for Field Day... would have been a really awesome experience. The dissapointment stuck with me for awhile.

Well, here's hoping they can pull off a solid lineup, but i wonder if they've lost some credability with teh artists. Course, money makes up for that doesn't it?

The thing with last year, was they were trying to do it in Suffolk county which is a VERY wealthy old people community and they just didnt want all the people there. Bonnaroo got screwed too remember.

and if anyone knows where Red Hook, NY is...its north of Poughkeepsie....10 miles from a town named Saugerties....they had a concert there once didnt they?

hehe.  I plead the exact opposite. I think the large festivals...the good ones anyway, have an electricity that is impossible to match in a small venue. some are crap though, but no small venue or arena is capable of matching 50,000+ people being totally crazy!

If they get Radiohead, Beastie Boys, and Norah Jones like is rumoured on billboard, I'd go this time (had tickets, then didn't rebuy when moved to Jersey).

i did rebuy and other than the fucking weather (not thier fault, really, i think it was pouring at the original venue as well!) the only reason i had a miserable time really was that i bought 4 tickets cause i thought my card didnt go through, and got stuck with 2 $100 tickets i couldnt get rid of.   and Beck fell off the stage.

  ugh.

Red Hook?! That's hilarious. I went to Bard College which is about 5 miles (or less) from Red Hook. A beautiful part of NY! I might consider going if the line-up is good.
