tower theatre/best route to philly
« on: October 05, 2005, 10:09:00 am »
greetings forumites-

any of you been to the tower theatre outside of philly? how is the venue? sound quality? site lines? worth trekking there for a show?

i've only been to the merriam theatre, northstar bar, tla, electric factory and wachovia center for concerts there.

also, since i'm a public transport gal, but the tower is outside the city and requires a car, i'll be driving up to the city of brotherly love rather than uber-busing it. best routes? 95 straight shot?

I've been there...it's not a bad place, I guess it just depends on the show. You DEFINITELY need a car to get there, and there are some twists and turns from 95. You have to go to 495, then 476...Mapquest is the way to go. It kind of reminds me a little of the Warner Theater a bit, but I think bigger. I don't know what the balcony is like, but I was about 3/4 the way back on the main floor and the sound was decent. Not my favorite place to see a show, but I've been to worse. Who's playing?

you know you go to too many concerts, when you say you've 'only' been to 5 venues in a city 2 hours away   ;)

2 hours, 39 minutes according the mapquest. And they are usually low on their estimates.

I've only been to the Tower once.  All I can remember is that the rows in the balcony were painfully close together.  I had to practically sit sideways in my seat because my legs were too long.

I saw U2 there, circa 1985.  It was cool.

Tower is a really nice venue. If I recall, the floor is sloped with seats, movie theater style. Nice sound at the place. I recall being there for Belle & Sebastian a few years ago and we walked in without having to show out tickets to anybody. In fact nobody asked to see them all night. At a certain point in the night, close to showtime, it appears that they shut down the tickettaker, but still allowed admittance. Maybe that was a fluke, but I found it odd.
