Windows Update question
« on: January 06, 2006, 11:06:00 am »
I have a work question for anyone that would know.  My computer (and several others at work) were automatically updated last night; others aren't sure if it was or not.  Is there anyway to tell other than running Windows Update on every machine?  From what I can tell, there isn't an updated version or rev number.

if it's Windows XP and it was updated with hotfixes go to start>control panel>add remove programs to see if there are any security updates listed... you may need to check the box that says Show Updates in the top.

I think it was fixing a security flaw in WMP.

another way to tell is to got into the \windows directory and you see a list of directories that start with $NtUninstall this is where it stores the update and you tell by the date stamp on the folder when the update was applied.

you can go to windowsupdate.microsoft.com and click on "Review your update history" on the left and it will list any that were done with the date

Thanks for the tip, Kosmo.  I'm not sure why the higher ups wanted to know another way to check when Windows Update works just as well, but whatever.  They're happy now, which is what really matters.

As for the tech job, count me in, although it's getting more techie by the day.  My background is graphic design, but that's broadening to include IT support at my new gig, on top of the web design and management I've been doing for the last few years.

If tech policy counts, then I'm in.
