nothing like internet libertarians...      [/b]
I actually think JfcpC has a fairly valid point here. While not condoning the scalping of these tickets, I'm a little shocked that they were only $15 for such a 'hyped' event. They could have still sold out with $45 tickets and the family/fund would have 27 grand instead of 9 grand. As someone who works in the health care policy field, you can spend 9 grand on an ER visit if you don't have insurance. Shit, you've got people coming to this show from all over the country, a $45 ticket is peanuts on top of a $400 air fare plus a hotel stay.

Make is 2 dates and pretty soon you're talking real money.

There would still be scalping but at least the family would have more guaranteeed money.

And as is so often the case, the fine denizens of 930.com prove themselves utterly incapable of handling any disagreement with the world they face like mature adults.
Because you handled it so much better on the Dismemberment Plan thread:

Unless you all already had people assigned to all those, you're sort of jerks. [/b]
That's also the same thread where you said that if you didn't get tickets, you gladly would have paid a scalper for tickets.  You're part of the problem...

You know, I agree with Julian in this.  He makes a lot of sense.

Most of you really think that scalpers are the worst people on the face of this earth?  That their actions are "indefensible?"  Really?  You have that much time to worry about such things? If I were you, I'd a PROPER job.  Stop messing around with this school nonsense.  Become a politician.  I hear Bono needs help saving Africa.  He needs you to sell red cell phones.

Is that what you do when you wait for grad school student loan checks?  You're THAT concerned about the integrity of a benefit concert for The Dismemberment Plan?  $9000?  To benefit someone who's sick?

It would be amazing if most of the smug, holier-and-more-indie-than-thou people on this message board devoted their passion, mis-information, lack of perspective, over-education and pretentiousness to something useful or worthwhile.

I mean, it won't HAPPEN, but it's nice to think that it could.  Let's face it, 90% of their waking hours over the next week will be devoted to dissecting and deconstructing "The Neon Bible" but, hey, a man can hope...

like the fact i have no interest in buying and discussing the arcade fire...

bottom line is that cc probably wont be banned because he is a ticket broker, however he will get banned if there is any evidence he is using the forum in which to conduct the business of selling tickets to 9:30 or IMP shows.

i think it would be legit to profit from incubus or buffett fans but not arcade fire, etc.  it is really a matter of opinion.  but for a charity show - that's low.

Hey - I just got off the phone with Cal who said (these are his own words) that "though i may be sick with Spinal Muscular Atrophy, ticket scalping might be the worst disease of all." Robbins went on to state that "accepting chokeychicken's 'blood money' would be the same as condoning the practice of scalping which i am opposed to."
There you have it folks - straight from the mouth of babes.

hmmm... I guess the fact that CC didn't advertise the way this seller did is the cause for all of this uproar...

 ebay link

Nonetheless, I guess the above post let's this guy off the hook.

However, if the original ticket sale is going to the fund - AND there is more money raised for the fund - AND someone who did not get tickets in time gets tickets to a show they want to see with the knowledge that they've given more than almost anyone in attendance, isn't everyone a winner?

At least, I think that's part of the principle of free-enterprise anyhow - with extra charity to boot.

Anyway, scalpers seem to be considered a lower form of life than child molesters in some circles.  Yet more and more states are loosening or ending legislation against the practice.

In any case - it just doesn't seem like that big a deal.  Oh well, I'm off to get back to work - flame me if you must.  It won't be the worst thing that happens to me this week.
