Badly Drawn Boy
« on: March 07, 2007, 10:40:00 am »
So did anyone go? Thoughts? It was my first experience seeing him and I thought it was a terrific show. I didn't know what to expect...I had heard that he was really charming and a good musician, but not very polished. I thought last night's show was a lot more polished than many shows I've seen, even when he stepped out for a few minutes for a cigarette. All of the stuff from the new record held up really well I thought. Very, very glad that I went to this show.

Passing up Of Montreal was tough, but I have no regrets about choosing to see Badly Drawn Boy.  I haven't enjoyed a show that much in quite a while.  I'd never really heard anything about how he is live, but I'd definitely say that "really charming and a good musician" is a good description.  And yes, the show was pretty polished overall.

Also, it really started to seem like he would just play all night, didn't it?  He probably could have if they'd let him, he seems like one of those artists who never want to stop once they get going (he said as much, in fact).  The crowd was wonderful, too, so I'm sure that helped.  I really wasn't expecting a two and a half hour set.  Consider me blown away.  :)

a few friends went, said he was very good, and he seemed to enjoy himself and almost didnt want to stop playing (a contradiction to when i saw him years ago).

though, i am glad i didnt go cause the only song i really like of his "you were right" was not played.

he could've at least made an attempt to please the audience.  ;)

last night's show was very good. he wasn't as chatty as usual and didn't pass around pics of his kids like he usually does. 26 song set and i'm too tired to type out all 26 titles, but suffice to say at 10 songs off the new album were included. 2 hour and 15 minute set.

last night was better than philly. they had been off for several days and damon wasn't in the best of moods. didn't help that the crowd was very tame.

if you can see him on this tour, i highly recommend doing so. he's been asked to play at the carnegie hall tribute to bruce springsteen on april 5. as you know, damon gough loves bruce. even named his son after bruce springsteen. Oscar Bruce Gough, if I'm not mistaken.

First time I saw BDB he played for over 3 hours at the 930 in 2001. A good chunk of it was banter though. He does like playing the 930 though and has done every DC show at the club, which I belive is 6 or 7 times.
