tonight I took my 16 year old sister to the Birchmere to see the Ditty Bops.  AMAZING.  The two most perfect women on the face of the planet.

Damn it it's so hard to get motivated to go to a wednesday show especially when you don't have a ticket in hand.

How are Rock Plaza Central live? I imagine they'd be a lot of fun.

I guess it's technically the second week of September, but I'm heading north to that OTHER  Virgin Festival , you know the one with acts you really wanted to see  :p

Before I get threatening emails from Seth, to clarify, the one I WANTED to see.

Anyone see Rock Plaza Central? How were they? I heard they'd only be bringing 4 or 5 musicians so the songs probably sounded different. i would've gone, but got free tix to The National show at the last minute.

they only brought 3 people, 2 on electric guitars and one dude switched off between accordion and several different horns, sometimes in the same song. So they were fairly low-key, but anti-climactic after O'Death, who were flailing chains around and pounding on things between more gentle banjo/fiddle interludes.
I liked Rock Plaza Central although it was obvious that there were some significant parts missing from the songs, all 3 of them sang and their voices worked very well together. The horns were nice too but my favorite parts were when they all sang together. Their between song comments were quite funny, a good contrast to the song lyrics, which were generally dark. They did a high lonesome cover of "SexyBack", which I thought was very inspired and funny.  I'd see 'em again, would hope for the full ensemble though.

I am still pretty much in awe from this show last night, mostly thanks to Ray Price and Merle Haggard.
