If blabbermouth is to be believed, Mayhem ARE stopping @ Jaxx. If not, looks like i'm going to have to make the hike to wherever to see them

believe it or not, the greater DC area was once a wild and untamed land of biker gangs, pool halls, fistfights, mullets, field parties, and 20something creeps with stringy hair and mustaches hanging around high schools dealing pot out of their Chevy Novas.  It was during those times that metal had a huge following in this area.  Alas, much of that culture is now gone.

Metal bands almost ALWAYS play Jaxx, or Sonar (sometimes Recher), and of course Nightclub 930. I think just about every major metal act out there does play in the DC/Bmore area.

in keeping with the spirit of this thread: closest stop for Ozzfest '07 will be Camden NJ (across the river from Philly) on Wed 8/22.  line-up:

Quote
The main stage will feature Lamb of God and Finnish monster-metal band Lordi along with Ozzy himself, who surprised audiences by performing on the second stage at a handful of dates last year.
Hatebreed will headline the second stage, with help from Mondo Generator, Ankla, Circus Diablo, Nile and The Showdown.
More artists for both stages are expected to be named in the next few weeks.
Ozzfest's 24-city onslaught, which was originally scheduled to begin July 7, will begin July 12 in Seattle and will make stops in cities around the country including Phoenix, Denver, Dallas, Indianapolis, Boston and Detroit.
To gain entry to this year's event, fans can go to www.ozzfest.com or www.livenation.com to find links that will direct them to special sponsor sites where tickets can be obtained for free. Tickets will be available for download June 12.
