bars around merriweather
« on: September 28, 2007, 10:41:00 am »
I'm taking a half day at work to head up to Merriweather tonight for Dylan.  I'm leaving super early to avoid rush hour traffic.  Anyone know of any bars close to the venue?

I'm sorry but that post made me laugh. Ever been to Columbia? They have just about every bad national chain. I had dinner recently with a few friends at Pizzeria Uno at the mall. The food was like grading a home ec exam. Never again.

Within walking distance?

Clydes, Champps, Cheesecake Factory, Unos, PF Changs.

 Short Drive:
 Nottinghams, Michaels, Sonomas, Greene Turtle.

I have lived in Columbia for 6 years.  I have yet to find a bar that doesn't totally suck.

BUT, if you just want to drink, there are places at the mall.  You can walk to them from Merriweather, or just park at the mall.

I should also add that Sushi Sono by the lake is really amazing sushi.  They also sell beer.  It's better than most places I've been in b'more and DC.

There's a That's Amore nearby too, right?

That is right next to sushi sono.  They have pretty good pizza.  There is also a Clydes down there and a Jesse Wongs Hong Kong (really yummy dim sum on the weekends)

The Tomato Palace is on the lake next to Clydes and Jesse Wongs.  That's Amore is across the road next to Kinkos.

If you are just looking to grab a beer or two, I would stick with Clydes or Champps.

Copeland's is OK. Not a great beer selection, but serviceable.

If you want a really good beer selection though, go to Frisco Grille. Not within walking distance of Merriweather, but it's only a couple miles away and it's on the way.

Sorry, I guess my input comes too late for the Dylan show, but maybe it will be helpful in the future.

Sushi Sono = bliss. Truly some of the best sushi you will ever have. The bridal veil is sublime.
