Songs with Movie Samples
« on: June 20, 2007, 08:59:00 am »
After reading Hoya's most excellent Explosions in the Sky poast I got to thinking of songs that have snippets from movies in them.

Poast the song, and the movie.  One per poast please.  And NO WAGERING!

i take it you want to limit yourself to rock/indie/pop music?  because if you include electronica, i can name you thousands of tracks with movie samples - a lot of psychedelic trance and chill-out/downtempo don't have any lyrics at all except for one or two quotes from a movie.

 something you might actually recognize:

And while it's not a movie...

Ween - "Powder Blue": After introducing all of the country musicians and giving them their due solos, they introduce Muhammad Ali and play a clip of his post-fight interview after The Rumble in the Jungle fight against Foreman.

Every song by punk band from my high school in 1996 featured a kung fu or blaxploitation movie quote.

I guess a lot of Wu Tang would have kung fu quotes too.  "Tiger Style.."

The 12" version of the Squeeze song "Last Time Forever" contains a Jack Nicholson sample from "The Shining":

"A momentary loss of muscular coordination."

"She was living in a single room with three other individuals . . .
One of them was a male and the other two, well, the other two were females.
God only know what they were up to in there.
And furthermore, Susan, I wouldnt be the least bit surprised to learn that all four of them habitually smoke marijuana cigarettes . . . REEFERS . . ."

Madonna's "What It Feels Like for a Girl" opens with a sample of Charlotte Gainsbourg speaking in the film "The Cement Garden" -- something like:

"Girls can wear jeans, and cut their hair short, wear shirts and boots, because it's OK to be a boy. But for a boy to look like a girl is degrading, because you think that being a girl is degrading.  But secretly, you'd love to know what it's like -- wouldn't you? What it feels like for a girl?"
