if you dont care about not actually having the cd and dont care about having a large library of mainstream music, then its just fine

and it lets you keep your goats and blow them as many times as you like

i've been a emusic subscriber since 2001 and have never been disappointed, even after they went from unlimited downloads to metered subs.

if you are looking for chart top songs and willing to put up with DRM then eMusic is not for you.  however if indie music without DRM boat anchors at a lower cost then eMusic for you. right now is quickly becoming the digital repository for smaller labels with titles going out of print. i.e. SST, Dischord, Twin Tone, etc.  it's also bring on board several UK indie labels making available releases only available as import, like Cherry Red

it's also got several big indies like YepRoc, Merge, Matador, Ryko, Sufjan's label, Kill Rock Stars, Vice, Din Mak, and added several V2 UK single b-sides. Sure it's missing SubPop and others but

I like it alot, as a supplement to my normal CD buying....and Kosmo is right - they fill a great niche with stuff thats a pain to find in most record shops anyway

Do the songs you've downloaded "expire" if you don't keep up your monthly subscription, or are the downloads yours to keep?

Yours to keep.  And they keep them for you too, in case of hard drive failure.  Re-download your entire emusic collection.

i really like emusic, if you go annual you can get 90 songs/month for about $15/mnth ... i generally use it to download a couple of new albums a month, and then fill holes in my older collection (just completed my superchunk discography this month!)

favorite download this month:
MF Doom - Live From Planet X

check this if you're curious about what all the backpack hip-hop kids are raving about ... it's perfect for emusic because the whole album is only one 40-min track
