Glitter is defiant

Gary Glitter's trial in Vietnam has begun with the disgraced glam idol in defiant mood.

The convicted sex offender and '70s pop icon told the first day of the hearing into allegations of child sex offences that he is an innocent man.

Glitter, real name Paul Gadd, has also been photographed outside the court displaying the victory sign, as he took the stand to answer allegations he molested two girls.

Glitter, who faces up to seven years in prison if he is convicted, stands accused of molesting the girls - aged 12 and 13 - at his beach house in the resort of Vung Tau, southern Vietnam.

His lawyer, Le Thanh Kinh, told reporters during a break that his client remains confident he will be cleared, commenting: "He denies all charges."

Glitter himself assured journalists that the girls were lying and that he was innocent when the trial broke for lunch. A verdict in the closed doors hearing is expected on Friday.

I love when I'm at heavily attended sporting events all over this great land....... to find the most conservative, boring, middle aged house wife I can locate sitting close to me..... and whisper in her ear the crimes that Glitter has committed against children......in detail.....and ask her how she feels now dancing to his "hit"....Rock N' Roll Part 2!....after her team scores.....it's kinda funny to see the look of jubilation turn to horror and disgust.....and I remind her to think about those stories every time the song is played from now on.....am I wrong to derive pleasure from this?

Glitter Found Guilty

The singer faces three years in jail for abusing young girls

Gary Glitter has been found guilty of abusing two young girls in Vietnam today (March 3).

The former singer will now be jailed for three years, after which he will be deported.

Following the two day trial behind closed doors because of the girls ages, the jury found that Glitter had molested two girls, aged 11 and 12, while staying at the southern Vietnamese resort Vung Tau last year.

Sentencing Glitter - real name Paul Gadd - judge Hoang Thanh Tung said: "His lewd acts have compromised the dignity of the Vietnamese people, law and common sense, and therefore it is necessary to punish him," BBC News reports.

Glitter however continued to protest his innocence after hearing the verdict telling reporters as he was lead away: "I haven't done anything - I am innocent. It is a conspiracy by you know who."

As well as serving his prison sentence, Glitter must also pay the families of his victims 5m Vietnamese Dong (£180).

Glitter could be considered for release after he serves a third of his sentence which will include the four months he spent in custody while awaiting trial.

3 years for child molestation for a repeat offender is a slap on the wrist!  Maybe they should give him a medal instead?  I wonder, will they send him to the Hanoi Hilton?

I know what you mean, I do the same thing every time I hear a Zeppelin, Bowie or Who song in public.  I turn to the nearest hipster/hypocrite and remind him/her that he/she/it is grooving to a song by a known child molester.
