I've heard conflicting reports on this thing. So, I don't have to do anything other then file my taxes, as I usually would, and the government is going to send me a check automatically sometime before June for somewhere between $400 and $600? (I'm single and have no kids.)

If so, I'm going to put it in my MMA or take out a CD. Screw that economic stimulus thing.

Nothing's in stone yet but I think the deal so far is $300 to those who were paid more than $3K but didn't pay any federal taxes, $600 for those who were paid up to $75K, between $600 and zero for those who were paid between $75K and $87K, and goose egg for over $87K. Double those amounts for married couples; $300 more for each dependent kid.

Lessee: car repair, TV (25-32") or Macbook.

Thanks for the info. Just so I'm clear: I don't have to fill out a form or request or anything -- this is just going to pop up in my mailbox someday, right?

While normally I would say that sticking that money in a savings account would have the exact opposite affect the government was looking for, but given the status of the banking industry, they could use the influx.

And yes, the check will just be mailed to you, just like last time Bush did this.

Really?  You didn't qualify or the address on your tax form didn't match or something like that?

It's not my job to bail out Bush's economy. If he wants to bail out the economy, he can start regulating industries, raising taxes, and implementing government works programs in conjunction with a single-payer health care system.

how would raising taxes help people that can barely afford to stay where they live or businesses to keep people employed?

"The government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it."

So as not to clutter up the last.fm thread with a discussion of websites that offer personal radio or playlist creation... Last night I found in  Jango, a site currently in beta, something that could be more useful than last.fm in the creation of "personal internet station"

In fact one can tune into this station and hear what a nice chunk of my collection would sound like if it were randomly streamed out on the internet.

Melodic Tunes with Rockin Guitars and A Little Bit O' Soul

The catalog is nicely populated, even has Gloria Jones doing the original version of "Tainted Love".  Hopefully not to many of the recommended artists I should have said never to play on my station will pop up.

And you know the people behind this are serious when they say they are fully licensed by ASCAP, BMI and SoundExchange....

Sorry for hijacking your thread Smackie with this public service announcement but I didn't feel like creating my own vanity thread.
