Vansmack (solo tour)
Duffys
3/17-18
if the hot rich one isn't coming, hardly seems worth it (like seeing the monkees with just peter tork)
although I'll be on the sandy beaches of southern Florida thinking of the good times that coulda been

The original post did not announce it as a solo tour and I realized that I would accused of a bait and switch if I didn't alter it.

oh you know us too well
but i'm just razzin you of course

Actually would have liked to make this 'special at the club' event if I were in town

Am I remembering the books incorrectly, or isn't the question revealed to be "what is 6 x 8?"

Congrats, BTW.

so i'm writing on my new laptop: intel i7 quad-core, 16 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD, blah blah blah...

i went for a full-featured laptop because 1) i got an amazing deal on it, 2) i need to run work-related apps outside of a browser, and 3) i knew it would piss off smackie.

If you really want to just piss money away, why don't  you buy me a fancy beer at Duffy's next week?

I have some thoughts on moving away from that kind of technology but mostly I want Sweets to know i will buy a lot of expensive drinks at this Duffys meetup. Prepare to take public transportation back.

i need to run work-related apps outside of a browser
that is a valid reason
but for those who just email and facebook (or comment on the 930 board)
anything more than a chromebook can be overkill

If work requires you to use specific apps and not a browser, then work can buy you a laptop that meets those needs.  Most companies have responded to that request by setting up Virtualization solutions.

I happen to know who sweetcell works for and would be very disappointed with their IT dept and web team if this hasn't happened, especially with their global reach.

I assume you mean streaming apps (ala citrix or RDS) or VDI
and yes they are great, but still a little out of reach for most small/medium businesses

but it is short sighted even for small business, just that high upfront cost and the need for techs with some know how to install it   (if you need some one...just PM me ;) )

Although, I'm not 100% sure that the citrix receiver works all that well on a chrome book
(the two star reviews on the Play store sound like it's not working that great)

This is a space I also work in and I can assure you it works absolutely fine.

In a pinch I use Chrome Remote Desktop.

For larger tasks I use VMWare Horizon.  Both work just fine on the Chromebook.

good to know, haven't had many requests for this, so my experience is limited (mostly due to my clients budgets)
but I think with chrome books on the client end, could really make it more price friendly

Didn't realize  VMWare Horizon was the new 'view'/VDI
it was clunky and expensive to deploy in the past, but appears they've gotten over the clunky part...but don't think they have gotten over the expensive part
Still cheaper to by $1000 desktops as needed to work with existing Server infrastructure.  Investing in something like this is $15-20k in hardware/licensing/labor (and that's a very conservative estimate)

but I only look at things from a SMB perspective
