Brian's rants are annoying, but harmless and occasionally entertaining.  He knows exactly what buttons to push to make people crazy - including me.  I'm still not convinced he's not an alternate-personality of a regular boardie.

I don't understand that.  I'm always insulting myself?

Whether you want to believe it or not, I never set out to annoy or "go off on a rant."  I'm not Dennis Miller.  The things I've said, I truly mean.  I don't think to myself "You know what would really piss them off?  If I said 'It's 2007.  And what Pete Wentz and Gerard Way have to say is a hell of a lot more important than what Bruce Springsteen or Bob Dylan have to say.'"  I'm not some aimless provocateur trying to "stir things up."  I just thought there would be a little more adventurous thinkers/listeners on this message board who resent being fed the same things over and over and over again.  Instead it seems this message board is full of people who  in theory have an open mind but if you say one bad thing about Thom Yorke, Billy Corgan, Springsteen, Morrissey, etc. to them, you get tsk-tsked and exiled.  People who are more concerned with what others think about what music they like and how â??coolâ? it is, than the music itself.

I'm not really one to jump on the bash Brian Walalce bandwagon.  I think some of his assessments are off-brand as hell, but he's pretty funny at times even when I think he's dead wrong.  Whether he's real or not.  (I just recently started leaning towards the former.)

As far as Dupek thing, it boggles my fuckin' mind that some of you "miss" the humor of a racist fuckin' coward who doesn't have the courage to state what he really is in real life, so he spews his warped form of "racial crusading" on an online forum.  A musical one that leans indie & liberal, no less.  Quotes about lynching negroes in Croatian????  You motherfuckers really find that funny???  It really makes me wonder how some of you conduct yourselves out in the "real world" where there are far less "PC people" (no pun intended at all) around.  Fuckin' atrocious.  Assume when I 1st came around these parts I were to start off posting a bunch of white-folk filled hate humor.  I guarantee that shit would not be endearing to anyone.  I like off-color humor & racially insensitive jokes as much as the next man, but only when it comes from a funny place.  Dupek was simply a salty coward mad cause black people at his job surpassed him in professional status, some got away with some shit and he couldn't handle it.  Nothing funny about him.  I really wonder about some of you people . . .

Everyone in this thread has stated that they thought the racial shit wasn't funny and many of us think that his banning was justified because of it.  .

indeed, that's why i prefer your inputs than the afore-mentioned dupek.  i don't agree with what you say, but i'll defend your right to say them (and my right to make fun of them).  racist provocation, on the other hand, i won't defend.  beu-bye.

no, walalce, not exiled, just ridiculed if you seriously think that today's corpo-rock is original and owes nothing to its predecessors.  if you want to listen to MCR, go for it, but don't pretend they're not hugely endebted to queen and bowie.  and your knee-jerk reaction to anything more than 7 years old is just as funny as other boardee's knee-jerk to anything that sold more than 15,000 copies and is known by the mainstream.

the ability to recognise that certain rock acts are still relevant 20 or 30 years later means that one can listen without historical prejudice, IMO.  keep in mind there are hundreds if not thousands of "old" bands we don't discuss because they haven't passed the test of time.

has it ever occured to you that you're the one with the closed mind?

I don't think Brian needs to go.  At least not until we find out who he really is.

Wow!  You're playing the ageism card?  Wow!

You're officially an American.  You may now enter corporate America.  Leave your British accent at the door.

So do I get an undeserved promotion with generous pay increase and a corner office with window to shut me the hell up?
