Well I don’t know that much about Minecraft but with Jack Black in it how can I go wrong? I like him and so do my kids. He is always a guarantee.
I liked this one more than the Mario Bros one. Way more as I didn’t like that one.
Bought three seats online Saturday morning at 11 for the 1:35 screening. Already most seats were gone.
Three tickets came to $67 which seemed kind of crazy to me. A large bucket of popcorn, coke and box of candy $26. I smuggled in one box of candy for one of my kids. Parking at Tysons mall was not an issue. Super easy.
We got there early. So we watched what felt like an hour of previews. Superman, Smurfs, etc.
The seats were amazing. The volume was rock concert loud. The temperature was hot. It felt like they turned off the ac in the middle of movie and then turned it back on ten minutes from end. I felt pretty smart having insisted my kids bring jackets, blankets cause they really crank the AC at movie theaters!!
Lots of kids pretty well behaved except for a pair of ruffians that at end threw a popcorn bucket back and hit a lady sitting next to my kid; she got mad and yelled at the kids. Their dad appeared to be there but sitting by himself far from his kids next to my kid. He said not a word.
The movie - for me- was pretty forgettable but my youngest who is into Minecraft had a smile on his face the whole time so it was worth it. Obviously full of special effects and lacking much of a plot. Jason Momoa played the overgrown loser (me!) washed up video game champion- who redeems himself at end. There was a kid who embodied the usual it’s ok to be a geek message (represented my kid into Minecraft).
I think Grohl had something to do with the song for the mandatory Jack Black rock out scene at end of movie. In the beginning of movie they heavily featured an instrumental version of Depeche Mode’s Just can’t get enough.
I wish I could have eaten at the Five Guys in the food court.
