Again, Paul Simon pulls in the old farts.
 Widespread Panic attracts their 'children'.

You have to consider the politics of the matter.

I'm caught somewhere in the middle.

 I'm a grown up who acts like he's 17.

It's also probably due to the fact that the State Police, etc were cracking down on everything this weekend... Never seen so many troopers out nabbing speeders while heading to and from Camden Sat...

there is a No Alcohol Policy at Merriweather, for all shows, in the parking lot.

but of course, its enforced more depending on the show.

The local newspaper had end of the world stories about the HFStival.  They thought it would be worse than the Dead shows of decades past.  I think they wanted to keep the neighbors happy.

I grew up walking distance from Merriweather, and back when the Dead would play, they took over downtown.  The mall was all dead heads, I have friends whose houses backed up to the parking lot and there were people bathing in the creek there.  Naked, and not people you would want to see naked.

I must have hit the right roads because I saw very few cops of any sort but plenty of bikers.

The best were the coolest couple I've ever seen riding a beautiful matching pair of Indians. They were dressed from head to neck with a great his and her matching set of tight black leather riding outfits, sans helmets. This couple looked like they road right of the set of some uber cool and glossy magazine shoot. It completely brought out my love of Indians. Not even Harley can touch an Indian (even though the newer ones are made from Harley parts.) The strangest part was that I was just telling someone about Indians only the day before. For those who don't know, Indians are very rare to come across.

Sigh.

 Those were the days.

48 hour straight party. They let people just camp in the parking lot for two straight days and raise holy hell.

Nothing like that will ever happen again.

 sigh.

Ah, but the HFStivalers are generally local. The Deadheads are gypsies.

Yes, but you assume these idiots actually can tell the difference.  They see it all as "scary kids invade my neighborhood."  As a local, I say F' 'em as most of the complainers are Johnny come latelys.

Yeah, I understand. And trying to reason with those sort isn't the easiest thing in the world when they would just rather not deal with any of them at all. "Lock all the kids up in their rooms where they are nice and safe and I don't have to see or hear any of them!" is their way of thinking. The Mr. and Mrs. Rhett sort. Of course, half the time they are the very ones who also say, "Not my child..." while they are terrorizing the classrooms on a daily basis.      Strangely enough, it all makes sense.

that's pretty sad if that's the case (the missing the reference part).
