My post-week wrap up:
Unfortunately, I made it as early as I could to the Black Cat on Monday, but still managed to miss Reatard's 20 minute set. GGW and BookerT (nice to meet you finally) both had great things to say, so hopefully I can catch him the next time around. The Ponys were solid, even strong at points, but some sound & equipment issues kept it from being outstanding. When they were on, though, they sounded great, and I was glad to see they kept the vocals as reverbe'd live as they do on record (first time seeing them, so wasn't sure what to expect).
Marnie Stern SLAYED last night! Again, wasn't sure what to expect, since I skipped her iPod tour earlier in the year, but I'm glad I did: the full band really brought each and every song. It was really something to watch all three of them; fingers were moving at light speed, and Zach Hill is pretty much a blur behind the kit. Everyone seemed pretty into it too, although it wasn't enough for some douche who, about 3/4's of the way through decided to push through the small crowd, spilling beer on me, and then standing there pouting when no one was into it. He kindly shouted "Sorry DC isn't into getting CRAZY" to the band, who just sort of stood looking at him with indifference. My apologies if said douche posts here, but seriously, cool out next time. This isn't NYC, you know
Oh, and I almost forgot, I think I stood next to the Director's Sister, or at the very least, his identical female twin: black chick, about this height, wearing shades inside and rocking out. She wasn't double-fisting beers, but still, you should check her out...she's perfect for you!
