 3.  Shared drums and cabs.  Not sharing adds 10 minutes to the set changes and makes the first song a soundcheck/drum tweak.
 4.  Get a listing of what everyone needs in their monitors to set that up from the start, this includes lineup (# guitars, singers, keys, acoustic, etc) and who needs what in the wedges where.
 5.  A good tip for the sound guy, that is going to be hell.

Been there, done that on time.
Heh, thanks for the advice. I will be doubling as promoter and iron-fisted stage manager for the evening. The clock is a good idea, and I've already dealt with the drums. As far as monitors, they are virtually useless due to the fucked up acoustics. But we'll be prepared. I think I have 3 sound/tech guys to aid in the process. Luckily 2 bands don't have drums, and 4 of the five have 3 or less band members. Makes things a bit easier.

Still assume that you will need a minimum of 10 minutes between bands, and have the DJ anywhere but on stage (unless he gets his own dedicated space which would be cool).  I salute whomever is doing the sound, I have singlehandedly done hell shows with 5 bands and 5 drum kits and it can be done, but you must be a hard ass, no extra songs or the last band's set will be nothing more than "Thankyougoodnight".

We have 15 to 20 minutes between each band, and Kosmo gets his own special place off stage, just cause we love him. I have nightmares about the scenario you just suggested, but I think we'll be ok.

At least Ceton mentioned the show... albeit without any reference to BY. Easily the best night of music in DC tonite. Well, I hope to see some of you around. I might actually have to play MC tonite...

I might show up to this gig - trying to narrow down all the options!

Have to get up early and work tomorrow.
 Have to work Sunday too.
And still have to get up and work Monday, and so on.

Would be nice if I had something to show for all of this work.   :(

Hey had fun seeking out music released under the creative commons or via netlabels and including it in my set on Friday.  Hope people enjoyed it...  Will have full setlist and details up on my blog micropop.net at some point.  I'm digging the synthpop and shoegazey stuff being dug up.  Props to redsock for setting up a nicely diverse lineup of bands.

redsock,

did you actually set up this show? i'm friends with sounds of kaleidoscope, brandon butler, french toast, and portions toll and none of them said anything about you or exit clov or big yawn setting it up. i figured it was just the usual random artomatic line-up. just curious.

by the way, the warehouse had a great show last night, too. that is, if you're more into the heavy rock side of things. that is why i wasn't at artomatic hanging with k-scope and brandon.

edit: nevermind, i read that article you linked to. good job.

Yup, I set it up. It was our night at Artomatic. Exit Clov was just one of the bands. They were all cool guys, really did a good job at making things work. Good times. When last I saw Brandon, he was certainly having some good times.

I've been to Art-O-Matic 4 times. First time, I attended opening night with  Meet In DC. I attended it twice during the Thanksgiving weekend. I went last night with   Maryland Outdoor Club, and I stayed for the Funky Furniture auction and the belly dancing.
