Raises depend on state and university budgets. For the new fiscal year (7/1) I got a COLA and blanket merit (to those with good marks). In addition, my job grade's salary level was adjusted (based on a bi-annual market study) resulting in the bulk of this year's raise. I've been at my job for less than a year and started at the minimum salary for my grade. Salaries below the new minimums for their grades had to be raised to at least those minimums.
On some holidays the university is open so I have to work. However, those days off are deferred to winter and spring breaks. We get the whole last week of the year off and part of spring break.
