How about one big trip report when you get back?  :)

We don't want you spending your whole vacation in internet cafes!

Should I post on my wife's blog while I'm gone, and link y'all to it? Or just give you daily summaries straight on the board?

I plan my shows that way!   ;)

This is the 2nd time I've read that assumption on The High Dials shows in DC by people who weren't there and it is so wrong. I wasn't at their last show at the Velvet but I did attend their Black Cat (Backstage) and 1st Velvet Lounge shows and they were both packed. Great shows too. Personally, I'm dying to see them play at the 9:30 Club but I don't like Neko Case and just don't have the extra money to throw on a ticket for a show that I'm only half interested in. If I can swing it, I'll go to the DC9 show instead.

 3/7: Mogwai - Sonar (maybe)
 3/26: Dreamend - DC9

And Betty, I do have plans for March 28th but at a different show.

Let me rephrase that.  I was at both Velvet Lounge shows and, while they were pretty full, perhaps I shouldn't assume that the group would necessarily make the jump up in venue.  I haven't been to that many VL shows though so I don't have much reference.

Unless I'm mistaken again, I think the DC9 show is in lieu of the 9:30 gig opening for Neko Case.  This seems to be the one date on the mini-tour where they split venues.

Okay, point taken. It just sounded like you weren't there.   ;)

Personally, I'm kind of surprised that its taken them so long to play the 9:30 Club with their growing local (and national...they just have a relatively very strong Baltimore/DC fan base) hype. But I do fully realize there are a whole lot of issues involved from any number of things involving tour management, to perceptions by anyone involved to touring issues to God only knows what else.

Though I don't know for a fact, I was under the impression that they would open for Nekko and then run over to DC9 for a headline gig. Sounds tough but after seeing them show up at the last minute and then set up without a sound check at the Velvet and still put on a good show, I think they can pull it off.

Redsock, care to clarify? Or do I need to go straight to the source?

96 posts in a day and a half...looks like your disinterest doesn't represent that of the larger group.     :D

Well everyone likes to TELL other strangers which shows they are going to. But how many of the 96 did you read through?

Sure thing Jag. To my knowledge, some dates of the Neko tour were booked before the High Dials jumped on board, and the DC show was confirmed long before I heard from the band that they were opening on dates. This was originally supposed to be in March, but life gets in the way sometimes for bands trying to do it themselves. Since they would be in town anyway, it made sense to reschedule the show for that date. They are not playing at 9:30 that night. Maybe we can swing a Neko afterparty though...

Hope you can make it Jag. What about Two if By Sea and Asobi Seksu, seems right up your ally?

Thanks for straighening that out.

Yeah, those bands are right up my alley but can't make any commitments as of yet. All depends on a few factors as I have major money/travel/work issues to plan my life around. Really sucks but that's my reality.

new york venues allow smoking by performers as it is part of a performance, Pollard was allowed to smoke on stage here in Portland despite venues being non-smoking

Oh, brother. What a load of loop-hole bull.

We all know that it was done so as not to place undo pressure between the performers, management and the fans which would result in a whole lot of pissed off people all because some asshole band refuses to abide by some law. By 'asshole band', I'm refering to any band or performer who would insist on smoking onstage even though it's against the law for everyone else in the room.

what about smoking in plays, that seems to be a fairly common prop in theatre
