This album release -- which is now April 9 -- was hyped EVERYWHERE in Austin.  Most bars had plastic 16 oz water cups listing the album and release date.

Saw them at Stubbs -- the sound was awful.  Not sure how the album will be...next time, NO shows at Stubbs.

New Ed Harcourt material this year

The Beautiful Lie is the title of my new record which should hopefully be coming out in the early stages of the summer. I originally made two albums last year intending for them both to be released simultaneously, but the idea was scrapped so we combined both records to make this one. There'll probably be another record with the left-over songs later in the year or in 2007.
Track-listing for 'The Beautiful Lie' is as follows:

 WHIRLWIND IN D MINOR
 VISIT FROM THE DEAD DOG
YOU ONLY CALL ME WHEN YOU'RE DRUNK
 THE LAST CIGARETTE
 SHADOWBOXING
 LATE NIGHT PARTNER
 REVOLUTION IN THE HEART
 UNTIL TOMORROW THEN
 SCATTERBRAINE
 RAIN ON THE PRETTY ONES
 THE PRISTINE CLAW
 I AM THE DRUG
 BRAILLE
GOOD FRIENDS ARE HARD TO FIND

Skye (ex-Morcheeba singer) has her solo debut coming out this year, but will probably never see the light of day on this side of the pond.  Nice full length tracks over at that one site...

Primal Scream Prepare New Album

 James Gregory reports:
Break out Bob Barker's leather jacket, because screamadelic Brits Primal Scream are getting ready to take another spin of the stylistic wheel. Their new album, Riot City Blues, due out June 5 on Columbia in the UK.

The disc will be the band's first set of new material since 2002's justly overlooked Evil Heat, and will see the once-vital quartet ditching the aggro-dance of their last two LPs for a return to the Stones-fueled rock of their third disc, Give Out But Don't Give Up. Singer Bobby Gillespie recently explained to NME, "I think we're one of the best live bands in the world and I wanted to capture that. The last two albums we've been loops and drum machines, for this record we wrote euphoric rock n roll songs and I wanted to capture that euphoria and I think we did it."

I'm imagining a pesky Famiy Circus-style ghost named Bac-ta-Basiks roaming around the studio. That poor Jeffy can't catch a break!

Riot City Blues features guest stints by Alison Mosshart (The Kills), Warren Ellis (Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds), and Echo and the Bunnyman guitarist Will Sergeant. The record's first single, "Country Girl", will be released May 22.

 Come together:

 01 Country Girl
 02 Nitty Gritty
03 Suicide Sally & Johnny Guitar
 04 When the Bomb Drops
 05 Little Death
 06 The 99th Floor
 07 Boogie Disease
 08 Dolls
 09 Hell's Comin' Down
10 Sometimes I Feel So Lonely

Not quite an album yet, but the revamped De Novo Dahl have posted three new songs on their website. They continue to do what they do best which is well crafted pop, if these three new songs are any indication DND ver 2.0 will be fab....  Now if they could only keep a steady keyboard player in the group

This could be a very interesting album....  Been listening to Graceland lately and WOW is that a great record vastly better than most of chart topping crude being released these days.

Simon Ready To 'Surprise' With Eno
 March 28, 2006, 10:30 AM ET
 Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.

After several years of work, Paul Simon is finally ready to share his long-awaited collaboration with producer Brian Eno (U2, Talking Heads) with the listening public. The 11-track project, dubbed "Surprise," will be released May 9 in North America via Warner Bros. and a day earlier internationally.

Among the songs set to appear on "Surprise" are "Sons and Daughters," "How Can You Live in the Northeast," "Outrageous" and "Father and Daughter," Simon's contribution to 2002's "The Wild Thornberrys Movie" which was nominated for the best original song Academy Award.

Guest appearances include guitarist Bill Frisell, drummer Steve Gadd and pianist Herbie Hancock, whose 2005 album, "Possibilities," featured a new recording with Simon of the latter's "I Do It for Your Love."

"Surprise" is Simon's first studio album since 2000's "You're the One," which debuted at No. 19 on The Billboard 200 and has sold more than 505,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The lone live date on Simon's schedule at present is a May 7 appearance at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. A small-venue show in London is in the works to coincide with the new album's release date but details have yet to be announced.

According to a spokesperson, tours are in the works for both summer and fall. Simon will also perform on the May 13 episode of NBC's "Saturday Night Live."

Here is the track list for "Surprise":

"How Can You Live in the Northeast"
"Everything About It Is a Love Song"
 "Outrageous"
 "Sure Don't Feel Like Love"
 "Wartime Prayers"
 "Beautiful"
 "I Don't Believe"
 "Another Galaxy"
"Once Upon a Time There Was an Ocean"
 "That's Me"
 "Father and Daughter"
