Clever!

Why do we yawn we see other people yawn? [/qb]
There is a study that says we do that because we care about them. If someone we don't care about yawns, we don't yawn. Wish I could find where I read this. [/QB][/QUOTE]

I'm not sure I agree with that theory because I remember when we were kids in school we would always do the old, "I bet I can make you yawn" trick...and it always worked regardless of who it was.

Okay, enough of the yawning because I didn't intend to hijack the thread, I do have a habit of asking random questions though that end up taking over.

Estimated at about 42%, but there is no exact number really - trends are discussed here -  http://www.upsdell.com/BrowserNews/stat_trends.htm

i was thinking about the yawning thing, and i came up with

If you are in a room, and your brain is not getting enough oxygen, could it be that there isnt as much oxygen in the room? Not like the moon or something, but a small enough amount less, to make you yawn.  Therefore, other people in the same room, hence, breating the same oxygen deficient air, would need to yawn as well.

Can you make people yawn over the phone?  i guess that would blow my theory. haha.

Evidently you can..if a deaf person hears someone else yawn, it triggers a yawn in themselves.

Having just wasted 15 minutes surfing the web to see what I could find...nobody really knows why we yawn in sympathy, even though clinical tests have proven it happens. The only educated stab at a reason was that it comes from our days as apes, because studies on apes shows that the leader of the group  yawns to signal he is ready to do something different (if they are resting and he decides it's time to search for food for example) and the rest of the group yawns to acknowledge his command.

Well, (Thanks Thirsty, Bastard) People yawn as an indicator that they are relaxed and that there is "no danger". That it why peopled who are relaxed feel subconciously compelled to return the yawn.

I think that you should definitely let flawd write a weekly column.  Tap into that angry disenfranchised high-schooler audience.  You gotta establish brand awareness when they're young.  Just like the tobacco companies.

And Mankie should write a weekly footie column.  Or maybe  "Car Talk with the Mankster."
