That is pissing me off! That and the fact that his little headlining tour is not playing here.

I only have one major complaint, and that is it would have been nice to know that Ash was no longer the main act. Luckily I managed to make it up the stairs with a friend to hear Ash just as they were about to go on. Was talking to a guy selling merchandise, when he informed us, yup Ash was the next band playing.

Ash was f'ing amazing last night! they played a good mix of stuff, and i was glad to hear all the older stuff. I've had the import of Meltdown, and have been wanting to hear this live, so it was quite great!   :)  I recall seeing them about 2 years ago and they also ended with Burn Baby Burn. Is that the deal at all the shows now, ending with that song? I Love BBB, so it really doesn't matter, just funny how now it seems every time im seeing them they close with that song. Charlotte was looking great as always and Tim.. yeah 'nuff said! I was only sad they didn't play jack names the planets as i *love* that song!

I don't think im as negative towards the bravery, as it seems many people are around here. they were entertaining, although i was more pissed they were headlining. their cover of 'dont change' was amusing to say the least!   :D

See, I think we did know -- they switched the order on the webpage.  I thought yesterday that meant the lineup had changed.

of course, this is dependent on folks looking at the website routinely, but how else could the club "notify" ticket holders?

Far be it for me to say I told you so, but the writing was on the wall months ago.  Too bad for Ash.

I think I will sell my tickets for the SF show to some crazed Bravery fan and make a sweet profit.

i ALWAYS feel this way at black cat ... the way the room is designed doesn't do a good job of pulling you into the experience if you're in the back of the room

yes, you are right. but after that whole big mess with VOB and ambulance on saturday night, with a lot of people claiming VOB was now the main act, its hard to know whats correct anymore. of course, me being a huge ash fan, i wanted more than anything the website to be incorrect! maybe i should have checked out the ash site or the bravery, but you never know. just seems 9:30 is a bit more organized with show times, etc than the Black Cat. Either way, it doesnt affect who I see where. If theres a band playing I want to see, I'm usually there early enough to catch em!

I'll echo some comments here...

 Crimea
I liked their energy and the title track Lottery Winners on Acid was pretty good.  You also canâ??t go wrong with a song title â??If you want to see my happy face, tell me my girl just died.â?  Other than that, nothing special.  They hit a volume level on one of the last songs that may well have kept my ears ringing all night.

 Ash
Mixed review.  Some good tunes, good presence, nice guitar work, and some great beats.  Definitely rocking.  I have a bias toward good vocals, though, and his voice just didnâ??t stand out in any way â?? quality, melody, or volume.  It made the songs feel somewhat repetitive.  This was my first time to see them, however, and it is always hard to hear the distinctions when you donâ??t know the songs.  Bass player looked like he wanted to kill someone for most of the show.  Maybe the guy who switched the lineup.

 Bravery
It looks like Iâ??m in the minority here, but I enjoyed the set.  I liked the three tunes on their website and I thought they played them well.  Honest Mistake is just a solid pop song.  Vocal was not quite as strong as on the recording, but he held his own.  On the flipside, there is no doubt that this group wonâ??t be breaking historic ground on originality.  I couldnâ??t help thinking throughout the set that they certainly â??actedâ? like a famous pop/rock outfit.  Full coiffage, eye makeup, painted nails, the works.  Dedicating the encore to Mom and Dad in the audience was endearing, but it didnâ??t exactly jibe with the disaffected pop star persona he had been working.

As far as the current wholesale thievery of 80s pop, it doesnâ??t really bother me.  The synthesizer has returned as an acceptable rock instrument, and style has returned as an acceptable companion to (or substitute for) substance.  So be it.  Like Kosmo said, itâ??s being reinvented for a new generation.  Even if it was better the first time, itâ??s hard to blame the 13-22 year-olds for thinking that itâ??s the greatest thing since sliced bread.  I liked the sound.  And if you like the Killers, Franz Ferdinand, etc, you can probably add the Bravery to your mix.

Thanks to the board for the good discussion.  Saw the Wrens and De Novo Dahl based on the buzz here, and both were excellent.  Especially DND, I canâ??t believe there were only 35 people at that gig.

I missed this whole thing -- were the acts actually changed, or just rumored to be so?

Nearly no place is as good at 9:30 about getting info out.  We are blessed to have this place in our city.  And it *really* spoils you; I now often am looking for set times at places in other cities, and usually to no avail.

i really enjoyed ash last night. i'm terrible at describing shows so i'll leave it at that. i'm always going to be biased though b/c they're the band that got me really interested in music ten years ago (yikes, that long ago) and were my first favorite band.

i also could've done w/ out the bravery headline  switch not only to hear just a bit more ash but also b/c i don't see why everyone's going crazy over them. they're entertaining and their music was sorta catchy but nothing too special to me.
