call me a little slow, or a lot slower after my day today, but im guessing popscene now has bands playing full sets. it seems that it used to be the place to be *after* the show. i remember the dandy warhols had went there, gene, blur, etc. but it was always after the show. but maybe thats what you're saying, and im slow    :)    is thursday night still the offical popscene night (ie brit-pop, indie)? alas, ive not been there since late 90s when i was living there, so im sure things change. glad to hear its still on ritch..was getting too popular/crowded for my blood. should have made it 21+! enjoy the shows! im insanely jealous i gave all that up.

btw, whose the dj now on thursday nights? i cant remember the guy's name who used to be there, but he was pretty cool. i went way too often!

 cheers! -r
Thursday night at 10 is still the official pop scene night, but they've branched out a bit and sponsor shows as Popscene in different venues (for example the Kings of Leon are warming up for their U2 gig with a show at Great American Music Hall on the Friday before - this is being billed as a special Popscene night).

The sets are full sets, but each band has like one album out, so it's not longer than an hour.  Late night, yes, the rockers still come by.

As far as the DJ's, I haven't the foggiest idea as I don't usually do clubs unless there is live music - I'm usually just there for the bands.  There was some buzz last night about Sunday's gig with Graham Coxon and 22-20's having the orignal Popscene DJ's - Aaron, Omar, Jeremy and Eric Shea - for a 9 Year Anniversary.  As I've only been here about 2 years, that meant nothing to me, but maybe it means something to you. [/b]
thanks for the update!   :)  its been awhile since ive last been on here (super busy at work), and i just got a postcard in the email from new wave city/popscene. i used to go to popscene from 96-2001 (on and off), regularly in those earlier years. I had met Jeremy a few times and Aaron was around then as well. cant believe a 9 year anniversary! holy smokes.. means i was going when it opened. oh the memories from that place. It seems its grown quite a bit since I was living there. ill have to check it out next time im back in town!

Saw this on the music for robots blog:

From Sean at R5 Productions:

"Unfortunately after moving the show from the first unitarian church to the starlight ballroom and then selling it out again, Bloc Party has postponed their Philadelphia tour date for tonight Wednesday April 6th.

Their singer Kele completely lost his voice after an exhausting touring schedule.
The band will be making up the Philadelphia date sometime in mid-June at The Starlight Ballroom."

No word yet on how this will affect the remaining New York and DC dates.

The Letterman spot was apparently taped earlier this week, but I've got my fingers crossed etc. for Saturday...

If the show is postponed (which would be a disappointment!), I vote that The Ponys do a full set.

I gave up on a ticket and am going to the DC United home opener.  ALTHOUGH, if a ticket showed up, I could do both.   :D   And I would be grateful and shower my benefactor with beer (as long as you think that's a good thing...).

Did anybody catch them on Letterman last night? I thought they sounded good and gave an energetic performance of Banquet. If anyone missed it I think you can find a link to the show on the Bloc Pary forum.
