i'm on the +5 side myself, presently working on it.  the gym was much more conveniently located for me in DC, football season started (which means beer), and that weekend in vegas was pure excess.

and for the latecomers to the party: 930clubber's original post that started this thread was the newbie'ish "will the Washington Social Club show sell out in advance".  miss p busted him.  clubber does get a few points for turning an embarrassing situation into a funny, but it's still embarrassing.

What's +5 lbs underneath a formless parka anyway.  I say hibernate in the winter and slim it off in the spring.

it's the price one pays to not have to deal with:
 a) hurricanes,
 b) the CA real estate market,
 c) desert isolation, and
 d) texans.

 a fair trade-off, methinks.

You know by renting you're throwing away good money, right?

That's because you're *renting*.  Try buying a place in SF and compare that to buying the equivalent in DC or the DC metro area.  It's much worse in CA than it is here in terms of the inflation of property values.

I am aware, but buying short term (less than 4 years) in this market is worse.

That makes sense. The positive way you carry on about your current life, I figured you're there for good.

If it were up to me, I would, but alas, it's not up to me.  The hospital match is coming up soon, so my future is subject to a lottery of sorts.
