ahhh i forgot about the Walkmen!  that's right.  part of Ok Go grew up around here, too...

Dave Grohl is from Woodbridge, VA.  I attended 2nd grade in Woodbridge.

 Bono is strictly speaking from Dublin but lived in my hometown of Bray while I was growing up (in a  Martello Tower)
   Phil Coulter lived literally across the street from us....not many people here will have heard of him but he's a pretty famous musician

Kelly Willis went to (and dropped out of) my high school (Annandale HS) and Dave Grohl would've went there as well had he been a year younger (they merged Thomas Jefferson into Annandale as it became a solely high tech school).

Roanoke/Salem:  Wayne Newton, there's no contest.
 
 My favorites were the local bands in the early ninties: Fallout, Integration, Equity, Swank.

 A few to choose from and if we are going by cool factor and not popularity then Mojo Nixon and the Beat Farmers trumps Blink 182.
