this record has grown on me immensely. this has gotta be the most pop record neil halstead's ever done, and that's not a bad thing.

New?

Let's say, it's lone star is shining even brighter.

There are a few good bands in Houston too but it still resides in Austin's shadow.

I see. So the reason you attended university was not because you were on a quest for greater knowledge.  The primary interest was the acquisition of money. Well, at least you are honest.  Youâ??ll get more academic bang for the buck by attending grad school.  Doubtless you experience the rest of life in a similar fashion.  Breakfast is an investment in daily nutrition. Masturbation to online porn is an investment in sexual release.  Showering is an investment in personal cleanliness.  Towelling off is an investment in moisture removal.  Not to put too fine a point on it, but arenâ??t you afraid that this financial-gain motive stereotypes you?

sheesh, you guys sure are obsessed with my personal life

thanks for your expert interpretation, but by referring to grad school as an "investment," i meant not that my sole goal for graduate school was to make money, but rather that i didn't want to take 3 years in my mid-20s and live like a hermit and eat ramen noodles, so i'm living a normal life and taking loans out, which i plan to pay back with the compensation i receive from a job after school

i actually find the law fascinating, it's kind of like studying physics in a weird way;  it unlocks keys for how the world works ... another bonus is the staggering diversity of jobs and careers available to a JD

so, i just wanted to thank you for consistently contributing positively to discussions about music around here ... any other pressing issues about my personal life that you need resolved?  or can we get back to talking about music?

i enjoy the jenny lewis record quite a bit.
and the new belle and sebastian.

i can't stand to listen to wolfmother or the raconteurs or whatever.
jack white makes my ears shrivel.

that said, i'm pretty disappointed that the only things i could find to like were the jenny lewis and B&S. considering my record collection of yore, this makes me look like a softy.

I'm not as sold on this Destroyers Album as everybody else.  Kind of a poor mans Mountain Goats to me.

After a week of listening to this years albums I've obtained (in no particular order):

 Like Like:

 Camera Obscura
Jenny Lewis with the Watson Twins
 Band of Horses
Art Brut (though 2005 in my collection)
 Belle and Sebastian
 Islands
 Nouvelle Vague
 Subways
 We Are Scientists

 Like:

 Destroyer
 The Elected
The Essex Green (need a few more listens)
 Muse
 Morrissey
Arctic Monkeys (I don't read much about music other than this board, and all that was said was "overhyped," but I never read the hype in the first place)

 Not so much:

Flaming Lips (major disappointment after Yoshima)
Snow Patrol (tried not to be over produced and layered like the first album and all that did was expose them as weak musically)
 Keane (I'm just over it)
 Pearl Jam (ditto)
She Wants Revenge (sort of an F you to Clearchannel, sort of a cheap cashing in - I just can't decide which prevails.  Either way, I'm over it.)
Wolfmother/Eagles of Death Metal/Racontuers (making a mockery of classic rock, should follow Truckers and Sloan's lead and put their own spin on it)

i've liked a lot this year, haven't loved too much. only one i really love is "rubies," which is about 28x better than any mountain goats record. i've completely guzzled the kool-aid when it comes to lily allen, and i never go for that breezy pop shit. but man is that album amazing, probably my second favorite. another one i really dig is the self-titled debut from adam arcuragi; anyone who likes sufjan, red house painters, mark lanegan, etc. should really check him out.

new oneida's growing on me but still doesn't match "secret wars"/"anthem of the moon" for me. pink mountaintops, vetiver, human television, ladyhawk, all pretty good. ghostface does the trick when that white guilt kicks in.
