Don't know if I'll be able to make this but I'd love to see Ringo Deathstar. Good Psychedelic Gaze.

I enjoyed Flying Eyes the one time I saw them. Reminded me a lot of Comets on Fire.

written up in the washington post and editors pick blah blah blah listen to more Necros and albert ayler

Who doesn't love coming up with a silly band name? Come on, like you haven't spent an hour or six on that Facebook game where you find a random Wikipedia entry, end of a quote and Flickr picture to create an fake band's album cover. Apparently coming up with a band name based on the name of everyone's favorite drummer is pretty popular, too, with Atlanta's Gringo Star and Austin's Ringo Deathstarr getting into the act, in a devious plot to confuse bloggers around the country. The latter makes a righteous racket, going with the can't-miss approach to live performance in which the band turns everything up as loud as it goes and blasts away for less than 30 minutes. Hey, if it worked for the Jesus and Mary Chain, why not? That seems to be the band's general M.O. -- listen to "In Love" on the band's MySpace page for proof. If your eardrums have been treating you bad lately and you want to punish them, head to our old stomping grounds of WMUC at University of Maryland to catch the band, along with locals Flying Eyes and Pittsburgh's Lampshades.

EDITORS PICK BLAH BLAH LESS PAINS OF BEING PURE AT HEART MORE STUPID MERZBOW RECORDS

http://www.washingtonpost.com/gog/music-events/ringo-deathstarr,1155871.html

both of these things left out BIRTH CONTROL which is lame, band is a rager. come early, might be packed, probably a total dude fest.

great show.  a bit different than i was expecting.  i thought it was going to literally be in the cafeteria.  nice set up regardless.  I didnt see everyone, but Birth Control (good for what they are, just not my kind of music) and Ringo Deathstarr (bad ass shoegaze, decent sized pedal boards, and the band seemed cool as well.) Cool place to have shows, and i hope you guys do more there.  My only real complaint was it was way too hot in that building (though ive been to summer classes at that school that the buildings were hotter, and i didnt realize it was BYOB until i was there and couldnt really leave.  Cant wait to go to this basement speakeasy show this weekend to see RDS again (along with Screen Vinyl Image and the Vandelles).  Good to see shows at places that arent your average run of the mill spots.  Also, i think a lot the crowd watching RDS only knew five bands cause i kept hearing people scream out Joy Division  and Ian Curtis (yeah i hear it a little, but not as bad as some in the crowd made it seem, way more effects than Ian and company used, vocals not really sound like him either...).

Do you have details on this? I bet anything it's on the 14th which I've already made prior commitments with someone a long time ago. Also have to squeeze some work into my weekend. Plus, I think I read that it was in Virginia which would sort of put me out due to some ongoing car problems. Crap! This is killing me! I really, really, REALLY want to attend this show for all 3 bands. You MUST fill me in afterwards regardless of how jealous I get.  :-*

This is both hysterical and sad. No way in fucking Hell do I hear any kind of Joy Division in RDS. Depending on the song, maybe some LSD & The Search For God, Elika, A Beautiful Noise, and, at times, a tiny bit of the Black Angels and The First Communion Afterparty but not a shred of Ian and company. Might even say The Laurals or a less refined Morning After Girls or Sereena Maneesh but no JD. What next? Radiohead? Remember when everyone (supposedly) sounded like Radiohead?  ::)

Thank you for this report as I came in here specifically hoping that you had delivered the goods....and you did.

its actually on the 13th.  if you can make it to College Park that night, you could ride to the show with me. the 14th is bad for me too, i was going to see the Thrushes that night at Sonar.   where do you live, baltimore?

Hmmm, I'm going to have to think about this. It still doesn't sound doable for me though considering the commute back home to Baltimore and then having a full day the next day with work and plans in the evening.

Yeah, I live in Baltimore but north of near Hunt Valley and Loch Raven Reservoir. Essentially, north of Towson.

Obviously, I can't see Thrushes Saturday night either. I know that Casey (from Thrushes) was really bummed that The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart had to back out of that show. Hoping for his sake that Thrushes get booked to open for them when they play their rebooked show in Baltimore in June.

Thank you so much for your kind offer. If I think I can swing it, I will PM you. Either way, we will have to meet up sometime at a show. Nice to have someone else around here with similiar tastes in music. It can get rather lonely at times when you are ratteling off bands that very few know of nor even care about.
