Hey lulu....you've been busy at work, haven't you?

 I checked FF's website (That's Franz Ferdinand, not Foo Fighters   :D ); they're not coming near D.C.  ?????

Well then my math only shows four shows I would go to out there. Actually, just one Old 97's show would be satisfactory.

I purposely left the 4 times the Old 97's are playing here off the list to see if Rhett would double check my "math".

As a heads up, expect the Britney crowd.  I have a friend who's a fan and gave me one or two albums (I had no idea what their deal was), so I went to see them with her at 9:30.  Wow, we may have been two of the ten folks at the show (of only about 100-150, by the way) who could buy a drink legally.

Oy, Bags, that's why I'm going!

So does this means all three are playing?  If that's the case, mother of god -- how much fun!!?!!

My bad.  The Franz show w/ the Tyde is at Slims.  Fishbone is at the Independent.

I found their show really boring.  Maybe they've gotten better; I saw them when just the EP was out.  Won't catch them when they come through DC...
My only other option is to see them open for the Strokes a week later so I thought I would check the warm-up show with just them.  We'll see. [/b]

I should have stated that some shows have been removed due to my schedule.  I saw that show but unfortunately I will be in LA Mar 29-31.

Gosh I miss the wit of you and Markie.

Just Monday at the Elefant show I was heckling the opening band, The Pleased, for being gawd awful and looking like a bad Tim Curry in Rocky Horror and the SF crowd was looking at me like I'm a freak.  The lead singer was just a complete tool.  He kept playing with the mic like he was Tim Curry from Rocky Horror (or maybe he was trying to be Diego from Elefant) and at one point the top half of the mic stand slid down into the bottom half because he slammed the stand down so hard.  He couldn't get it out so he had to finish the song out on his knee so he could play guitar and sing the song.

So the club tech guy/roadie waits in between songs to go up there and fix it and the lead singer yells at him (mind you this is the Pleased's equipment, not the clubs) and I started telling the lead singer to stop acting like and ass and these things won't happen.  The crowd just stood their in awe like "nodoby talks to the band".  They were terrible and didn't even play their best song - "Another Disaster".

Anyhow, when I was chatting up Elefant between songs Diego was stoked and offered me one of those coveted Jadetree hugs, but I passed and the gay guy next to me got it instead.  I don't care if you are a local band, your respect is earned.

Guess which one I'm talking about in this pic:

So what makes heckling a band so cool? Seems pretty juvenile to me.

I mean, the crowd was probably looking at you thinking what an ass you were, not looking at you in awe or anything like that.

Who said anything about it being cool?  I didn't.

I was defending the stage hand and letting the Pleased know that despite everybody's back being to you and chatting throughout your gawd awful performance, some of us are here to see you too (even own the album) and that you should give a little better effort.  I'm sorry that Elefant isn't quite Berlin and The Psych Furs (who they are also opening for), but with an effort like this you should be lucky they haven't dropped you.

I said "the crowd was looking at me like I was freak."  That in no way connotates awe.

They were content with just having this awful background noise on while they sipped their pints, chatted with their group and waited for Elefant.

I was hoping for more from The Pleased and I let them know it and I thought that Markie and Lulu would understand that.

Would it have been better if I just spit in the lead singer's face?  Would that have been the adult thing to do?

To me, it just seems disrespectful to heckle an artist, unless they themselves have done something personally disrespectful to you, the audience member.

I think it takes balls to get up on a stage and perform for people, and having balls doesn't deserve to be rewarded with derision, does it?

i'm guessin' some of the boardies have block this from their memory but...  The Pleased were the band that stunk up the stage when they played with Love at the Birchmere.  heckling them is the least the audience probably wanted to do at the time   :D

I don't personally agree with heckling....but on the other hand, if a band makes no effort on stage for an audience who has paid to see them, then that audience has every right to voice their opinion.
