I prefer Big Boi's album over Kanye's new one.

I sampled a couple of tracks.

Lyrically, he's too much of an egotistical douche for me to enjoy.

For my token hip hop album for this decade (so far), i'll take the Roots' How I Got Over. And it's way more than token.

I bet reading the writeup is less painful than listening to the album. 

Not even close.  I'm not much of a Kanye fan, but I enjoyed the new album.

even after reading the hype, i'm surprised by the new kanye.  very restrained, coherent, and 'classic'.  feels heavily set in blueprint-style with various nice mid-90's RZA notes . . . bringing the past to the future, like 'power' sounds so modern but also probably could be at home in 2002.  some kanyetastic dbaggy moments but its got heart, a sense of humor, and a natural unforced swagger . . .and it feels like the work of a person, not a character.

^^Agreed as far as the mid-90s style Kanye went for this time. For those who may not follow hip hop to closely, its been the trend for the past few years to re-create the 80s and 90s. A few years ago, everyone hopped on the 80s kick and now its starting to wear thing. Now, its all about bringing back the army jackets, timb boots, and philly blunts. Along with that, the hard-hitting style hip hop had in the 90s which most folks refer to as the golden era.

Oh no doubt. I know that a lot of the kids try to bring the ugly-ass neon colored suits and the bad haircuts athe dance clubs. But in hip hop, its been pretty widespread. I think its finally wearing thin but it'll take some time.

I liked "Surfing the Void".  It's not as good as "Myths of Near Future" but few albums are.

I disagree with the collective ejaculation regarding Mr. West.  I've listened to that album five or six times and I just don't get it.  Putting aside the Summer's Eve that flows through his veins, I don't hear "genius."  I hear the rap "Chinese Democracy."

My theory is that music critics love more than anything a proper "rock" star who validates myths and behaves poorly.  The reasons Kanye's album is topping EVERY year end poll is the same reason that if look back on polls from the 90's, a lot of Hole albums are up there.  Two, three years from now we'll look back on our entire "Kanye phase" with embarassment.

However, getting back to the Klaxons.  Here's one of the better live mash-ups.  "Golden Skans" vs. a song you're sick of hearing.  Whatever happened to her?
