It was good seeing all my fans down in Richmond on SAturday. Next stop on the brewery tour is likely to be Pen Druid on Mother's Day weekend, after a hike.

Though stout season is over, this beer from the Veil was the MVP of the day. Sounds like it would be a hot mess, but it was something special. So smooth and silky. The Answer does some dame fines stouts and Joose, too.

Eternal Slumber is a special blend of Sleeping Forever Imperial Stout aged in Cognac, BliS Maple Bourbon, Muscatel barrels used to finish rye whiskey, and Laird’s Apple Brandy barrels, all conditioned on hundreds of pounds of coconut. Possibly the most complex, layered stout we’ve ever released. Dense, viscous, dark chocolate cake, frosted cinnamon rolls, Mounds bar, and Samoas.

This sounds pretty awesome.

Join The Sovereign on Thursday, May 9th for a very special evening with one of our favorite breweries, Jester King. On this night, we will feature 15 different beers from our friends in Austin, TX.

Located in the Texas Hill Country, Jester King is at the forefront of expressing terroir in American craft brewing. All of their beers are fermented with their house blend of native wild yeast, locally grown malt, and their own well water.

Highlights from the list include an extremely rare keg of Viking Metal, a Swedish farmhouse ale brewed with smoked rye malt, juniper & sweet gale, then aged in Old Tom Gin barrels.

Not to be outdone, we will also feature Vague Recollection, a blend of Das Überkind & Bière de Miel, refermented on Tempranillo & Sangiovese grape pomace.

There is no admission fee for this event and all Jester King beers will be priced individually by the glass and in 4 oz. tasting pours.

another new brewery in Falls Church!
https://www.settledowneasybrewing.com
2822 Fallfax Drive,
Falls Church, VA
(odd location, I almost bought a home right down the block)

The name comes from a lyric in the Grateful Dead song Ramble on Rose.   (a negative in my book...but I'm biased ;) )

Head Brewer, Henry Jager looks to have some good creds to his name
Started at Twisted Pine as lead Brewer in Boulder. where he won medals at the Great American Beer Festival (GABF) Spent the last five years at Heavy Seas as Brewing Team Leader

I definitely don't have the skills or the stamina for that

now, if I won the lottery and could convince a good head brewer to come on board...then maybe
