i'd like to see more ska
« on: April 05, 2005, 12:34:00 am »
There seems to be a pretty decent ska scene in DC and Baltimore, but personally I'd like to more ska shows...I think the best ska band out there is Fink's Constant.  Saw them at the Crowbar in State College, PA, they were absolutely amazing.  Best thing outside of the Pietasters I've heard in a while...

One of the greatest ska bands, The English Beat, is coming to the Recher Theatre!

Well, the only original member of The English Beat nowadays is Dave Wakeling. It'll probably still be fun, but no Saxa or Ranking Roger.

Ska sucks. I would like to see fewer ska bands come to this area.

I saw "Dave Wakeling's English Beat" when they played Taste of DC a few years ago.  They weren't half-bad.

I noticed that General Public is playing Bumbershoot this year. At this point, what's the difference between General Public and English Beat?

I'll bet one's Wakeling and one's Ranking Roger.  Just a guess...

No difference. Ranking Roger is not involved in either, Dave Wakeling owns the name to both. It's the same musicians in both, the only difference is which songs they play.

I love Ska.  It's great that the U.S.A was able to answer back with its own original musical style when Elvis, Roy Orbison and the like came over the pond from England in the first wave of the British invasion.
