Yet playing here [SXSW] can help garner attention and build the ever-elusive industry buzz. It happened with Norah Jones two years ago. This year's hottest band is the high-energy Scottish rock/dance quartet Franz Ferdinand (yes, it's named after the archduke whose assassination helped kick-start World War I). The band's self-titled debut is closing in on the top of the U.K. charts and its show here was one of the most anticipated of the long weekend.
 
 Doing boffo in Great Britain doesn't necessarily translate into album sales in America, however. Sitting poolside with his band mates at the Radisson Hotel, lead singer Alex Kapranos seemed well aware of potential pitfalls. "We don't have any master plan for conquering America," he said. "I think so many British bands have a horrible, condescending attitude about America and think that just because they're big in Britain, they'll be big in the States. We don't think like that. We'll just enjoy playing our music and see what happens."

 Oh wait, the closest Megastore is in NYC isn't it.
 
 Anyhow, I neglected to post a review of the show, but I saw FF two weekends ago with The Tyde and both bands were amazing.  The best show I've seen since I moved here.  The only downside was all of the British people at the show - you know how much I hate "those" people.

I have been bitter about not seeing them at The  Velvet Lounge since the night of the show.  It was right as I was moving if I recall and I wasn't able to get out there.
 
 Anyhow, they were really good.  They defnitely looked LA, but sounded British.  I only have "Twice" and most of the songs were off of Twice, a new tune who's name I can't recall and some old stuff.  They definitely looked older than I thought they would, but I learned later that they've been a band for years and are in their 40's!  They sounded really tight, and while I thought FF had more energy, the Tyde sounded better.
 
 Because they were an opener, they didn't play a full set, but I am looking forward to seeing them as a headliner at a smaller venue.  I'm sure this show was nothing like the Velvet Lounge show, but it was still great.

That is cool, thankyou. Once, the first album, is well worth piking up. I got mine on ebay. They did sound very good at the velvet lounge when thye played, too. I guess they have plenty of experience.

The drummer/singer for Velvet Crush, Ric Menck, played drums on the last Tyde album. Does he tour with them as well?

Also, anyone familiar with Beachwood Sparks?  The Tyde and them share some members; Beachwood Sparks is more twangy but worth looking into if you like the Tyde.

I cant stand the twang. I love the tyde, but absolutely loathe the beachwood sparks. They share members but thats about it.

 If it is the guy in the back there, I think he was with the tyde, but he maybe had a beard then?
