Their new album is out.  You can be like me and listen to it.  It is pretty good.

Peter Bjorn and John
Saturday 24 September 2016
Lincoln Theatre, Washington, DC

funny, i was just asking myself last week what PBJ were up to these days...

I've got you beat. I ask myself that question every freaking day. Just kidding. This doesn't make their new album sound very interesting. Unless pop radio is your thing. Personally, I thought they were pretty poppy already.

In the five years since their last album Gimme Some, the three members of Peter Bjorn and John were very busy. They started a record label, Ingrid, built their own studio, produced other artists, and each worked on solo projects. When they decided to get back together to make their 7th album, Breakin? Point, they turned to outside producers to help them get a slick modern pop sound. By calling in Patrik Berger, Paul Epworth, Greg Kurstin, and Emile Haynie, they availed themselves of the services of guys who had worked with artists as huge as Kanye West and Adele, as awesome as Robyn, and as far afield from their sound as Linkin Park.
Not surprisingly, the album has a studio sheen unlike any PB and J album to date, with ornately smoothed-out arrangements made for pop radio.

I agree, caught him at a sold out (edit...was packed, may not have been sold out) show in the 90's at the club and it was awesome

Holy shit, hahaha! I will definitely go see Kula Shaker at USMH.
I actually grabbed a live boot from last year and it was pretty kick ass. Dude can still sing and he's always been an entertaining guitar player. That show could kick ass. And could also be a trainwreck.

I PMed you!

I am stuck in San Francisco and so won't make it to Mark Lanegan at Rock N' Roll Hotel (I know... horrible venue).  Anyone want my extra (for free)?  Second time this has happened to me with him

this gets me a bit more excited for this show...

I?ll be honest with you, if you wanna know: we?re working on a something right now. When it?s quiet around here you know I?m up to something. I have reached the ?when do I get to tell people about it? stage. I have become adept at remaining present to this stage, in a meditative style. There are four of us now. Our vision is growing broader. We are tending to it like Humboldt growers in possession of rare seeds during the pre-legal days.

But Matt and me ? Matt Douglas, I mean, our corner-man, the new guy, the one and only, the natural, He Who Wields the Bari Sax ? we?re going to hit the road for a weekend, just us two, since ?you have to do some shows with just JD and learn what it?s like when he forgets to count off? is a contractual requirement for full membership. Come! See us play stuff the full band never does! Watch Matt attempt to remain in good humor on tight four-counts that I say under my breath instead of aloud!

These are the first just-me-and-Matt shows since he joined the band, and I am amped for them. Changing the formation up  over the past few years has resulted in some of my favorite shows ever ? me and Wurster at Carnegie Hall during the Evening of Awesome; me and Peter in Barcelona at the end of the Tuttlingen Warriors tour. I?m ambitious and will be listening to Bill Evans & Eddie Gomez sides from now til the shows to get myself psyched up. Come see these special shows if you have the chance!
