so if the Orioles weren't stealing the Nats money would they be viable or permanent cellar dwellers?

What does that say about Baltimore if it can't field a competitive team?

Are you referring to the non-competitive team that made the playoffs 2 out of the last 4 years?

I meant if they were NOT stealing the Nats money...Obviously, as you say, with the Nats money they are competitive.

'Poor' Nats were only able to spend $165M in 2015 - no wonder they didn't win the Series.

I was talking about the Orioles stealing Nats money.. not saying the Nats are a poor team.. obviously the DC market is much bigger than Baltimore which in relation to DC is minor league...

MLB's decision to placate Angelos by giving him future Nats money was idiotic but its a reality

What I'm asking is : without that money could the Orioles compete in the majors or would they be better off maybe as a minor league team? Maybe even the Nats Triple AAA team? That way Orioles fans could still watch baseball but their team wouldn't have to steal Nats money to remain in the majors...

In what way?  Being diligent about a player's health before giving him millions?  Potentially leaking information to the media?  Egads!

Clark:

"I always have concerns when there appear to be public misses related to a player, related to a player's physical, related to any number of things tied to a negotiation between a club and a player."

So he's concerned about leaks.  Ho-hum.

You can never have too many big, slow guys on your team.

I feel like the O's have got another Nelson Cruz in this signing, only left handed.  He might hit 40+ in the shoebox with that porch.

Looks like DH duty for Trumbo.

This is what should scare you though.  Trumbo has to play OF now, and he's an adventure out there....

How did the Rays let Rickard get away?  I realize it's only spring, but this guy is a shoo-in to be on the OD roster.  Are they really that deep?

They rolled the dice for sure, and it still might work out.  Their 40-man roster was full (and chalk full of OFs), so they put him in the Rule 5 Draft.

The Orioles selected him in the Rule 5 Draft, so he has to stay on the O's 25 man roster the entire season, or the O's have to give him back to the Rays.  I think they felt he was still a year out.

Right.  Ryan Flaherty, T.J. McFarland, Jason Garcia and now Rickard.  Pretty good results for practically no cost.  Other than taking up a roster spot for a year.
