Then double dip on the comments on Deadspin's requisite rehashing as well. Solid.

Did not disappoint.

"Toronto thought that the days of Rob Ford saying stupid shit ended in 2016..."

“Roy Halladay entering the Baseball Hall of Fame as a member of the Phillies is like Paul McCartney entering the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Wings.”

"I’m pretty sure Phillie fans, as bad as we are, will not be throwing batteries or snowballs at Roy’s widow."

Why is it taking so long to sign Harper and Machado?

Here's a list of 15 players, all of whom were among the 40 highest-paid players in 2018:

Miguel Cabrera, Yoenis Cespedes, Albert Pujols, Felix Hernandez, Jason Heyward, Yu Darvish, Jordan Zimmermann, Hanley Ramirez, Johnny Cueto, Adrian Gonzalez, Ian Desmond, Jacoby Ellsbury, Chris Davis, Homer Bailey and Troy Tulowitzki.

Those players made a combined $361.7 million in 2018, about 8.5 percent of all money spent on payroll -- and were worth a combined minus-1.1 WAR.

So with that, MLB's worst contracts on each team:

1. Baltimore Orioles: Chris Davis (4 years, $92 million)
2. Detroit Tigers: Miguel Cabrera (5 years, $154 million)
3. Los Angeles Angels: Albert Pujols (3 years, $87 million)

13. Washington Nationals: Stephen Strasburg (5 years, $138.3 million) or Patrick Corbin (6 years, $140 million)

http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/25885766/ranking-worst-current-contracts-all-30-teams

Somewhere I remember saying that the Cabrera deal could be worse than Pujols, but the Davis deal has failed spectacularly, even more than I imagined, even with ADD exemption.

Still makes little sense to me as both Harper and Machado are young

They are not Pujols or Cabrera who were over their peak when signed

Strasburg was never worth it...as he gets injured way too much

Davis is a horrible signing which I believed was horrible the day he signed...

I hope the Nats don’t sign Harper but if his price falls they may....

Some of us are just trying to make it through our Thursday without getting triggered. Come on, man, what did I ever do to you?

and Troy Tulowitzki.
I have no interest in the actual discussion you were having
but that's a great name!

I know this is due to injuries...but kind of insane these two statements back to back

The Blue Jays still owe $38 million
paired with
The Yankees will pay Tulowitzki the major league minimum salary for 2019

Sorry brother, I've just got to fill my time as I'm not watching as much hockey this year...

Keith Law did put three Tigers on his Top 100 Prospects:

15   Casey Mize   RHP
65   Matt Manning   RHP
68   Daz Cameron   OF

So you've got that going for you....

Next time we're together, remind me to tell you the story of the Angels paying Josh Hamilton $26.2m to play for their division rival, the Texas Rangers, who paid him league minimum, so that he can get a hit and knock in the winning run in the last game of his career, that sealed off a comeback, to knock the Angels out of a wild card and send Texas to the playoffs.

All while I was taking my wedding photos, and the face I make is priceless as the photographer is snapping them and my best man let me know the news.

Also, best if you duck when I get to the end as I am known to throw things when watching/discussing sports.

Machado to the Padres

10 years, $300m!!!!! Player opt out after 5 years...

Biggest contract in American Sports History, for maybe one day?

The Padres have invested $528 million in Wil Myers (through 2022), Eric Hosmer (through 2025) and Manny Machado (through 2028).

Dodgers guaranteed money beyond 2022: $8 million.

MLB Net insider Jon Heyman: "Padres are pulling off one surprise (once Manny’s finalized) but here’s another shocker--they aren’t ruling out Bryce Harper, too. 110M payroll (with MM) is still lower than most."

I would be too, but then again I was shocked at a 10 yr/$300m deal for an infielder with two repaired knees and a hustle problem...
